Actually, evolution is a fact. The “Theory of Evolution” describes/defines/explains/etc the fact of evolution (observed phenomenon).
Just as gravity and germs are facts, gravitational theory and germ theory are a set of explanations, laws, etc.

The Theory of Evolution can be summarily disproven with contradictory evidence, but with the literal mountains of evidence for evolution, the best one can hope for is additional evidence that modifies and strengthens evolutionary theory. Or a reality-changing miracle the likes of which have never been observed in the history of man or in archaeological/paleontological history.
The thing is, nothing, whatsoever, has ever been offered for Creationism. It’s 0 for, what, billions?

DansonDelta: first of all thank you for writing everything you did. I thought some of it but was always to lazy to write it down into the religion thread.
Im a Deist. In my point of view a higher unexplainable and unfanthomable entity created some particles and certain dimensional criteria like time and space. And by that layed the foundation of existence. Religion is merely the explenation of all those things reason and science is not yet capable of explaining, and an attempt to explain the world. Because if you do not have means, time, intelligence to explain something, and you do not have the time to develop a scientific theory (because you work the fields like a bastard), then you need something else, to be able to exist and not die out of fear. Referring to that initial and final act of creation works best.
A French scientist/theologist attempted to show the dilemma of proving god with reason (I vaguely remember)
- The Universe exists.
- We assume for a moment it has been created by a higher entity.
- Assuming this entity is omnipotent: the most difficult way to create the Universe would be to do it while not even existing.
- Thus it would exist and yet would not, because the being would alter “reality” or be perceivable in its actions, but not exist, because otherwise it would not be omnipotent.
(I know doing things the hardest possible way is not the most intelligent thing, but were only assuming the being is omnipotent and not omniscient/omniintelligent)
And that is IMO a somehow the truth and the reason why some believe and why some do not. It is NOT because some are dumber that the others. They just both are right.
