Ep3 Source engine features...

The most fun in ages.

Well, Biohazard the badass has managed to get Alien Swarm’s deferred renderer working and ready.

This opens up a whole new set of doors for the engine. Seriously.

It makes the lights look pretty, it’s not like it actually effects something important, like gameplay.

What a shame. You’ve always presented yourself as a pretty smart guy before that.

Not really. This video is a good example of dynamic water in the Source engine. It’s not the fanciest looking thing, but it’s a start.

That video only shows particle physics, it has nothing to do with actual fluid dynamics, which are very expensive to calculate.

He’s got some demos for reflected/ indirect lighting in his steam screenshots too. The man will be a legend.

I wish there was something more I could say.

Source is now officially next-gen

Too bad we’re still stuck with an archaic mapping technology.

And loading times every 10 minutes.

The only thing I wanna see is improved vehicle crashing.

Instead of driving a 100mph right into a wall, with absolutely no damage to the car, and only about 20-10 hp taken off Gordon.

Even if it only has minor dents and bumps, I wanna see damage, instead of god cars.

Because of all the cars in the HL series that would benefit from it right?

Im not saying do it all like the video, I just find it extremely unrealistic when you have say the Jalopy, which is pretty much just a regular sports car with a little rust, and your able to drive it off a cliff, and there is absolutely, NO, damage.
Its always something that bothered me, because im kind of a reckless driver in videogames, so for me, it stuck out alot.

It was integral for getting from one place to another therefore it cannot break or the game would

Never said it should break, just said there should be visible damage :stuck_out_tongue:

Alright before you say that Story is more important then graphics, and I realize this, but I agree with you. Look at Left 4 Dead 2, and look at its outro for the Dead Center campaign, the racecar recieves a little damage from crashing through the doors if you look closely (I know you dont directly control the car but still.) I like the story of games, and I rarely nitpick on graphics (and never when its designed to be simple, like LoZ Windwaker, or minecraft), But look at this stuff, if they can render a giant robot rebuilding itself (Portal 2) and a Bridge that was pretty much the whole level you just went across exploding (Left 4 dead 2, skip three minutes in)

Then i’m pretty sure they can add a few bumps to a car after crashing it if they can do this.

Long post (Compared to how much i normally type), but I kinda realize some of the flaws with this after talking to a friend on steam.

i want biohazardpro to release this extrame dinosours mod :expressionless:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
