That valve was so intent on creating an awesome cinematic vista at the beginning of ep2, they didn’t tie it with the end of ep1.
Also, that I (and many other HL fans) never noticed this until someone pointed it out.
I can’t belive that i am first who noticed that…
why you keep… hmmm… “defending” valve?
It makes more sense that Gordon was just knocked out by the portal storm, and the train continued until it hit a bridge damaged by the storm.
you weren’t, you were the first person who made a thread about a subject that nobody cared to post about. How about bringing up the end of HL2 and the beginning of Ep1, that seems more messed up than the train placement. Purple vorts rescuing alyx? Sheesh, nobody’s gonna believe THAT, i mean, vorts are brown for christ’s sake. different colored vorts are totally unrealistic and not in tune with valves attention to detail or plot. How about the part where the g-man talks about plucking alyx from black mesa when she wasn’t even concept art when HL was released? That kind of retcon is fitting for a video game publisher that isn’t constrained by traditional plot devices but not for a company like val… oh wait, thats right.
Or…and this is just a crazy backwards way of thinking, but maybe the gman placed Freeman along with Alex there because it was a safe distance from the citadel explosion. And yes, maybe it is another train…
Honestly, this makes the most sense. Think about it, the gman moved you from hl1 to hl2, he moved you from the citadel explosion in hl2 to ep1, and he most likely moved you from the second citadel explosion from ep1 to ep2. Prove me wrong. Just try, muhahahaha.
Alex is a cool guy
and.
What I said! And that’s definitively the explaination for all this.
Sorry I missed your post.
After watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM_d5ngL2gc about the beginning of episode 2 it seems more like the train is still on tracks, although the bridge is obviously falling apart but the citadel is actually to the left of the train, not the front or back, or am I just seeing it weird?
Yes, you are seeing it correctly.
This thread is now “VALVe simply botched it up vs. it is intentionally so because of a perfectly logical reason”
Feel free to pick a side.
Essentially, I don’t understand how this qualifies as on trail.
why dont you show picture before bridge collapsed?
i guess it was the best solution in terms of level design. if the citadel and the bridge and all the stuff where in the same direction, i think you can imagine how it would have looked like. not so well!
edit: how comes i’m a alien grunt? they must have reversed the user titles to award those who don’t shit post all day long loal
It’s not just you, I was looking out for Alyx in every direction before I got to the last wagon on my first playthrough.
the surprise attack from the hunter made for a much more “Holy fucking shit” moment than a cliched “cliff-hanger.” I was stuck with my jaw agape for about a minute after that thing brutalized alyx.
also, the placement of the bridge and the citadel was just to present a much more epic and visually impressive vista, which made it possible to see the ruins of the citadel and the emergence of the superportal, as well as setting up a good tableau to experience the effects of the portal storm. It makes sense from a story/design standpoint
bscly
no he didn’t, he moved you AWAY from the explosion at the end of HL2, but the Vortigaunts moved you to where you started in Episode 1.
Gman straight out tells you that he couldn’t do anything to influence your progress, not even just to talk to you, until the Vortigaunts were busy healing Alyx. This is also what I feel the reason is for Gman to say that he “chose” Alyx from Black Mesa when she was still a child, even though at the end of HL2 he seems to have just left her for dead. She was meant to be a trump card to distract the vortigaunts while he tried to lock you back in storage at hte end of HL2, but it ended up not being enough, but she was still useful later on, at least enough to get in touch with you during the whole Vortesence scene.
Also can anyone re-listen to the commentary speech bubbles to see if they talk about the new plaecment?
Nope.Still not funny.
In reply to the post above me me.Nah I remember the bubbles pretty well and they dont mention it.Its definitely a mistake, but one that doesnt matter at all.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
