But we’re not talking about someone being in a coma or a vegitative state! We’re talking about some unborn embryo that scientist could use for the benefit of a person who is already here!
I’m talking about brain-dead, you’re talking about brain-damaged. There is a difference.
Edit: Here you go.
If I would have the power I would go back in time to before Hitler first tried to kill himself when he was 18, I would try to help him prior to when he went psychotic. As for Pol Pot, I would go back to 1950 when he was working in Yugoslavia and befriend him in his innocence (this is before he became communist). As for Osama Bin Laden, if I had the power I would convince his father to send Osama to school in America to be away from that huge dysfunctional family.
The doctor said that he was brain dead when my friend came to the hospital. The machine couldn’t catch a signal so he pulled the plug three months later. About 5 minutes after he pulled the plug my friend’s bodily functions started working again and within 3 weeks he woke up. That means that the term brain dead can be wrong.
Too bad you don’t have a time machine. And thus, this whole “what could have been” argument is pointless. It already happend.
Let’s get back on topic: Stem Cell Research: Good. Petty Morality: Bad. Please continue.
Anecdotal evidence is a poor supporter for any argument.
You’re being naive. You can’t simply assume that environment is what was responsible for them doing the things they did. There is something fundamentally different in each of these people from the common person. Hitler would still have been ‘psychotic’ had he been raised in America, or the moon for that matter.
It’s osama i’m talking about living in america. If Osama would have been raised in a correct family the things he did would have been different. Just imagine having 1 father, 10 mothers and 21 siblings from different women but from the same dad in your childhood, that definitely does something to a child.
Be right back going to eat supper.
So we went from talking about Stem Cell Research to the possible effects of time travel?
So his 21 siblings all grew up to be terrorists?
ah shit, son. ya had to bring abnormal psychology into this :fffuuu:
lulz i have come to eat all ur fetuses hack-man
I’m trying to make this the most controversial thread possible. Is it working?
Back on topic
Embryonic stem cells collection DOES NOT require the termination of the baby. This is a myth, they can and do collect stem cells from the ambilical cord AFTER THE CHILD IS BORN… let me just repeat this for those who simply hear the words stem cells and start spouting “EEEEVIIIIILLLLLL!!!”
NO CHILD IS HARMED. Modern techniques can even take small samples from children early in development with no harm. These samples are very small and often useful. HOWEVER if a person wants an abortion and wants the children used for science then why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone?
But I will admit I’m as confused about the resistance on this as I am on the US oposition to free healthcare… especially since you seem to value unborn babies lives yet if someone can’t pay a doctors bill you just let them die. Am I the only one confused by this?
Cup o Joe, your argument against embryonic stem cell research is flawed at a fundamental level. Your argument is due to the potential of each embryo. Well, if that potential is so important, surely that applies to all embryos and all sperm and all eggs. In that case, your argument at it’s logical conclusion says that human beings should be on a constant breeding program so that all eggs and as many sperm as possible are saved.
Sperm cells don’t live amazingly long and they are produced all the time by men, so you should be spending every second of your day mourning the loss of countless trillions of potential people.
Oh shit. I should stop visiting the Feminine Beauty thread :fffuuu:
You fiend!
I think you missed my point. I was saying that it’s stupid to object to embryonic research on the grounds of potential human life when you aren’t touting the ridiculous ideals I mentioned at the same time.
