I would like for you guys to add elite marines with an ehanced AI and sharpshooting skills with special uniforms. They would be very rarely encountered of course being like mini-boss battles throughout the game.
They’re called “female assassins” and they’ve been in HL since the beginning.
I always found the ones with the berets to be weaker though… Puzzlingly.
This actually interests me. I didn’t realize you were doing special squad leaders. Is there any benefit to killing them first?
Is there going to be an equivalent alien unit, e.g. agrunt squad leader or houndeye alpha dog/pack leader? Because that would be SWEET
Probably because they don’t have helmets to protect them against 9mm headshots.
I heard some time ago that if a squad leader spots you all other team members would be aware of your location. Therefore killing him before you are spotted will give you a slight advantage.
nifty
Sexy!
Sexually arousing!
Yes i’m even more excited for black mesa after hearing this!
No! This can be!!!
“Luke, black mesa was delayed to 2010.”
“Nooooooo!”
It is cool when i see Raminator post that.I was like “god awesome!!!”
Only because they used to place grenades at their own feet. :[
Speaking of which, do you think they were originally intended to place claymores on the ground, but the coding never made it though?
No, the idea is that they’d leave grenades and retreat. Players would chase after them merrily assuming they were close to dying, then be promptly gibbed by the grenade on the ground.
Of course it falls apart when you shoot at them mid-animation causing them to return fire and forget about the primed explosive on the floor.
Hopefully that issue will be addressed simply by the enemies being able to walk and shoot at the same time. I’m pretty sure that was the case for pretty much every enemy in original half life, but I’m fairly confident/hopeful that BM devs wont deliberately include that AI weakness.
In light of this, wouldn’t it be feasible for soldier and guard zombies to have slightly more health and deal slightly more damage too, after all?
If it works gameplay-wise, of course.
…
does this mean we can expect a lot of scripted ambushes?
I actually would like to know if this is true. If so would the squad leader for non hgrunt units have any visual difference from standard units?
There is no defined squad leader for groups of xenians or any special behavior as such other than sharing information with the squad (which is really default Source behavior, NPCs can have squads and relay information between each other about targets)
In the original Half-Life, you could group any number of NPCs of the same type into a “squad” and assign a squad leader. Whith SoHL you could even tweak the individual team members further. I need to get HL and Hammer installed again… /nostalgia
