Duke Nukem Next Gen

surfing around i’ve found this, a remake of Duke Nukem 3D with the Unreal 3 engine. sounds very interesting and i’m looking forward for this:

the first screens are looking awesome!

Wow the design is horrible.
it’s like they just slapped random high res textures on everything

It’s very early days yet, the pics and vids that I’ve seen (the same here) are just the proof of concept so the likelihood is it’s going to look a lot better when it finally arrives. I think they plan to release them in episodes like the original.

That cityscape needs to be more skyscrapers and less big black rectangles with yellow LEDs

It looks pretty good for a start of a mod.

The plan is to make a Black Mesa-style remake. That is, to reimagine what DN3D would be like if it was made today.

Except in this case, it’s going to be a standalone game.

This is the 4th thread about this.

Duke Nukem seems to be a pretty popular topic among BM fans

That attempt at irony would have worked in 2009, not anymore. Both projects have planned releases. I’m not sure where you’ve been for the past four months, but DNF is actually going to be released this year.

Technically they’ve been saying that since they first announced DNF.

some here didn’t get it? this isn’t DNF, this is a mod remake of DN3D  i’m sure it will get a lot of fans as BM does. they’ve just started development so there coudn’t have been any thread in 2009 or 2010 about that - now that you’ve finally got it isn’t DNF: good morning!

i like the first screens and the 1st (test-) trailer.

btw. i’m still mapping for the good old DN3D - makes fun again to create and play own levels now with the HRP and polymer look!

I was just replying to the person above, but even DNF looks more likely to release than this mod, I think I read somewhere that the level designer started 3 other remake projects before doing this one.

yes - but let’s hope he (and his team) will stay now at this project and continue working on it.

I also read that all he did was make a level, then decided to get permission. I guess we’ll see. And the “They’ve been saying that since it was announced” argument doesn’t make sense anymore, 3DR is finished with the game, but gearbox owns it and aren’t changing anything gameplay wise. Since 3DR isn’t adding anything else, and Gearbox is only fixing things, not adding them - it’s coming out.

yes, and from every remake the first level always looked good. but then he just stopped. now i hope that he will stay on this project. i know that he is not alone with DN:NG - he has a team. but we will see…
