Doom on ZuneHD!

This is not a debate thread, if you want to bash Zunes you yourself said there is a ZuneHD thread made for debating.

What’s quite ironic is you’re bashing Zune but at the same time link an article where Zune wins in every category. Ipod wins in apps and speakers and that’s it. This has been repeated over and over, it’s been decided, stop repeating it. On the other hand, with openZDK released, Zune’s gonna be getting a lot more apps.

The significance in Doom for ZuneHD isn’t solely in the game itself, but in the fact that in about one week one person was able to make a fun well-made 3d port to ZuneHD. That means we are probably going to be getting a lot more cool custom Zune apps like emulators and game ports.

Over your head the point went.

Ive been lurking these forums for a long time now and I’ve noticed that Bolteh has a habit of going to every thread and praising how wonderful Apple is and bashing Microsoft. Anyway i don’t have a Zune but this looks great. I wish my DS can run Doom a little better than the current port can.

No you haven’t, because if you did, then you wouldn’t have said…

While I do defend Apple against attacks from mindless sheep that bash Apple based on false accusations and assumptions, I’m as neutral as it can get when it comes to Apple vs Microsoft. I’ve grown up with both and still use both equally (Windows at work 8 hours a day, OSX at home for the rest of the day when I’m not sleeping).

My reply in this thread has an ironic undertone because of all the mindless bashing that happened in the Steam-to-Mac thread where people went "olol welcum 2 da 2005 macfags roflolol.

And with garthbartin not understanding the point, I actually meant he didn’t understand the point. My post actually confirmed that the ZuneHD is better in every aspect, and yet it doesn’t even reach the heels of Apple in terms of sales. Being better doesn’t always land you the success you deserve. Proper marketing and community support, however, does. And guess what Microsoft doesn’t have? Right, proper marketing and community support.

This whole trend of porting old game ‘x’ to new technology ‘y’ is full of nostalgia win, but little else. I’d much rather see the effort put into new games, rather than rehashing old games for no reason other than because you can. On Wii it was awesome to play a bit of Wolfenstein 3D with the Wiimote, but after that initial nostalgic joy there was nothing but the original experience of the game, which was nothing special.

And I can’t imagine this being particularly fun to play. How do you move? And turn? And shoot?

But with that said, if I had an iTouch/iPhone/whatever, I would definitely be getting ScummVM to play all the old point and click adventures on the move. Mainly because they’re a) good games and b) can actually be played on that type of interface.

Do I need to delete the argumentative masturbating posts? No? Ok good. I assume that means everyone will work together to not be so abrasive.

Personally, I have no favorites regarding ipod or zune, but I do know the zune pc interface was easier to work with. I have yet to see an actual game on one of those tho.

Saw Catz post. ._.

Sooo… any links on what people are working on with this new found hack? I would love to see what the future holds for my Zune

then why does microsoft have a 90+% of market share when it comes to OS’s?

Because Linux isn’t sexy enough yet.

<.<

he is talking about Zune and iPod not OSX and Wintendo

<3

he was talking about microsoft’s marketing.

yeah, but in the zune sector and not OS sector

no. he was talking about microsoft marketing IN GENERAL.

Microsoft’s marketing has no part in Windows being so mainstream. Pretty much every other software developer that makes software for Windows is the cause of Windows’ success, but Microsoft has no part in it.

Anyway, Microsoft’s Zune(HD) has a whooping market share of 1%, Creative has 6%, Apple has 73%. The rest is filled with random Flash based mediaplayers. So despite all it’s ossum features that blow the iPod out of the water, they still only hold a tiny tiny fraction of the market. So if it isn’t the device itself that’s shit, what else can be shit?

Microsoft has bad marketing, the only thing they managed to market well, was the Xbox, but the other side of the medal was that it came with a ton of bugs (at least the 360). Apart from that, Microsoft’s marketing consists of copying Apple’s marketing, but with a twist (like “I’m a PC” (and “I’m a PC… and I chose Windows” later)).

At least they know how to make proper windows. After a year of Vista, 7 was more widely accepted than any previous OS at launch.

The concept of porting doom to something (although awesome in its self) isn’t really the point. Once doom has be ported to a device it’s a hacking milestone. It shows that a device has been truly and fully hacked.

So that’s why there is always a doom port for any popular device I got my hands on.

It also speaks for how robust the doom engine is. I’m not saying hacking these devices is easy but once you have full script access the doom port isn’t long to follow.
