I recently downloaded the doom 3 alpha and I was told i should delete the doomconfig.cfg file that was in its base folder but when I try to launch the alpha it is just a black screen that does not load up the menu, so im here wondering if any of you know how to fix this?
Why would you want to run an unreleased, unfinished, full-of-debug-code-slowing-it-down version when the full version is available?

Or just get DOOM 1, turn down the music, get a graphics/lighting mod, and turn the lights all the way down so you can barely see shit.
Yeah, Doom 3 just isn’t what DOOM is. It’s a slow paced and shitty System Shock 2/Half-Life clone with a crap story and mediocre gameplay.
But the “DOOM 3 CLASSIC” mod makes it alllllllll worth it!
Hopefully doom 4 gets it right. Until then, it has no right to be spelled in all caps like DOOM 1 or DOOM 2.

No. Doom 3 is NOT a remake. That would be like saying “Metal Gear Solid” is a remake of “Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake” because MGS rips off Metal Gear 2 in many areas (such as some story and gameplay elements.) Or calling Bioshock a System Shock 2 remake for the same reason.
A remake is an exact/near exact replication of the original, like Black Mesa or the “DOOM 3 CLASSIC” mod (or MGS: The Twin Snakes.)
Doom 3 uses the same “story” as DOOM 1 and that’s about it.

I agree, Doom 1 is better than Doom 3. But that could be due to the sentimental value Doom 1 has for me. And no, not Doom 2, it wasn’t nearly as good as 1 :hmph:
