Do I need deus ex 1 to play Human revolution?

thinking of getting Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but I’ve never played any of the games from the series before; do I need to play Deus Ex in order to understand the storyline??

No. The new game is a prequel and apart from a few references, you’re not really missing anything if you haven’t played the first one.

However, I do recommend playing the original, nonetheless. :stuck_out_tongue:

okay, cheers. I was mainly wondering having read the PC gamer review and how it talked about how the game’s ultimate meaning is how the events and context of the first game would be set in play.

Yeah, the game stands alone quite well. Aside from a brief bit of the first game, Human Revolution was the first of the series that I finished. Absolutely superb from beginning to end, I might add, but the game is excruciatingly difficult to play if you come at it from a combat perspective. My first play-through I got “Foxiest of the Hounds,” so definitely play it stealth action your first time. Slow down, take in the atmosphere. It’s really one of the best games ever created.

I’ve knocked out at least 3/4 of the enemies I’ve taken out so far.

I’d like to finish the original before getting this one but I’m stuck in that secret group’s hideout :frowning: .

How? You get a map.

Also, no you don’t need it, but not playing the original should be a capital offense.

Escape from prison cell. Talk to Paul Denton (unless you went out the apartment window, they have a solution then too though). Get code from Daedalus. Get equipment from armory. Exit passed guards with dogs. [COLOR=‘Black’]See secrete twist that you should have seen coming.

Cannot dignify this with a response. No you dont NEED to but… Not play the original Deus Ex? Not play the original Deus Ex?!

Well how bout I just dont breathe. Pretty please with sugar on top, play the game!

I´ve played the original Deus Ex two or three times in my life …it´s a briliant old game…it would be a waste not to play it …

but as for the storyline…in Human Revolution we´ll see the the establishment of UNATCO …is it true?

Forgive me, my fellow gaming bretheren. I’ve been committing a terrible sin for quite some time. I had not played the original Deus Ex. But now I have turned from my evil ways and actually completed it. I hope this fair offering and my eternal devotion to Dei pleases you and him.

[COLOR=‘Black’]For those who don’t have a sense of homour\brain : I’ve recently bought DE and completed it.

So, which ending did you choose on your first playthrough? Spoiler:[COLOR=‘Black’] I chose Helios.

You mean in the original Deus ex? … SPOILER! - Merging with Helios

Just gonna say that playing Deus Ex first will result in a much larger boner when playing Human Revolution.

Illuminati ending is the best ending.

It’s like asking if you can eat eggs without bacon - of course you can but they just go naturally together.

Just finished the game a few minutes ago. I went with Tong’s ending, but it was really a hard choice. Although apparently the sequel just kinda mashes all the endings together. But whatever, I’ve played the first one, and that’s enough for me to play Human Revolution now.
