I agree it lacked feel of dmc1,2,3 but combat was great and engine suited that well.
Nero is Ok and Dante have much of his moves from 3 … those removed were stupid.
Also dmc4 sold most copies from all and yes it was made to appeal to girls
Recycled, nerfed, and slowed down Dante =/= good (combine that with lack of devil arms = fail), Nero’s arm was the cheapest thing in hack’n’slash history and as per character development, his + kyrie lovestory was cringeworthy.
Add the whole go-through-the-game-backwards and fight-the-same-bosses-3-fucking-times - and all in all, you get a lazy milking attempt while the cow was still alive.
I missed the old gunslinger/trickster moves + million stab system. It seriously makes you feel that they simply wanted to make Nero look good.
Theres no reason for million stab skill because stinger is overpowered in dmc4
stinger was not the only move that could be button mashed.
Tell me exactly what skills he is missing in dmc4 …
Wild Stomp, Free Ride, Point Blank, Wall Hike, Crazy Dance, Pole Play, Tornado, Million Stab, Hyper Fist to name a few… several yamato moves are missing too btw

You are right … but in dmc4 you obtained moves sooner than in dmc3 and in 3 you had to level up every style while in 4 you can buy upgrade …
Also dmc4 Dante is faster than in dmc3
And:
-Wild stomp = Dante matured so useless
-Free ride = Dante matured again
-Point blank = you can power up shotgun in dmc4 whenever you want
-Wall hike = in dmc4 there are no environments suited for that
-Crazy dance = Dante matured for a third time
-Pole play = there are no poles in dmc4 also Dante matured once again
-Tornado = 1st missing
-Million stab = it is in dmc4 after combo with Rebellion
-Hyper fist = 2nd missing
-Yamato = Because its not Dante’s sword … only Vergil is master with that
dmc3 guns:
-artemis = useless
-Kalina Ann = Lady have it back in dmc4
-Spiral = 1st missing gun
devil arms:
-Agni&Rudra = 1st missing weapon
-Nevan = Useless and Dante cant bring his guitar with him everywhere
abilities:
-DT explosion, Nero have it … also Dante’s DT changed again and with his speed in dmc 4 that would be overpowered
-Kick jump, again Nero can run n’ kick
styles:
-quicksilver is overpowered and there is Key of cronus in dmc4
-doppelganger = 1st style missing
So yeah Dante in dmc4 have:
-2 missing attacks
-1 missing gun
-1 missing devil arm
-DT explosion nerf but he have trigger heart
-kick, lol not too important
-doppelganger is missing
But he have those additional abilities you mentioned so I think he is better in Dmc4 and also his Gilgamesh have 2 missing attacks from Beowulf but have all Vergil’s moves.
So ?

While some of the removed weapons/moves might not be 100% efficient, some of those made the game more fun. I’m no super awesome power player pro when it comes to DMC, so efficiency only mattered somewhat to me. Oh and I liked Nevan and Free Ride
The main thing I liked with 3 was the whole Dante/Vergil rivalry. Playing as Vergil was pretty cool too. I was quite disappointed when Vergil got left out of 4.
Nero was at least better than the recent typical japanese male leads (I’m looking at you Final Fantasy). I would have preferred Vergil though.
4’s ending seemed a bit weak to me too.
Im ok with dmc4 Dante … if you dont like that just play dmc3 bro and my points are OK … also you can switch styles in dmc4 whenever you want while in dmc3 you cant … dmc4 Dante is stronger and faster … well you dont believe me ? watch dmc4 Dante true style tournaments
DMC4 TSTs were never as impressive as DMC3 ones even with all that style switching.
