The part in Quake 4 when you’re turned into a robot.
Call of Cthulhu (at 14!), some really dark and twisted stuff, combined with the first-person no hud display and the sanity effects really got to me after a while. Not so much scared me, but I was having seriously strange dreams for about 2 months afterwards.
I couldn’t play SH2 when I was younger purely because of the mannequin leg composite monsters.
Condemned still gives me goose bumps with it’s enemy AI and how good they are at sneaking away from you and getting you from behind.
Stalker : Shadow of Chernobyl, down in the Zombie infested Research Lab that housed the brain frier or whatever they called it, scared the hell out of me the first time. The other Lab with the Poltergeists freaked me as well though ^^
Most of Doom 3 had me sitting on the edge of my chair too.
That’s interesting you say that because the end boss (Giygas) creeped me out.
Most disturbing game moments for me came from Condemned, Silent Hill, Eternal Darkness, an older game called Amber: Journeys Beyond (That Alien Level creeped the shi* out of me)
First game I thought of when I saw this thread. When you hear ‘make it stop!’ through the metallic screaming, that was very disturbing. And without giving too much away, when you reach the core…
Resident Evil when I was like 8. Used to scream like a girl, now I just do it in my sleep. Wierd stuff.
Has anyone tried “Amnesia: the dark descent”? https://www.amnesiagame.com
- Amnesia - the first meeting with a monster in that house… Oh, and the invisible monster in a watter filled room - was so afraid to fall into water the first time playing this game
- Silent Hill 2 - no comments needed I think.
- Condemned: Criminal Origins - the episode where you go through the abandoned shop and the enemies look like mannequins… Also in the same episode, the part where real mannequins start to follow you <_>
I haven’t seen anyone mention these two.
System Shock 2
Clive Barker’s Undying
Both were pretty creepy when I first played them.
oh yea forgot about that one, when you put that spell on and the paintings changed, that creeped me out alot.
Damn I can’t believe i forgot about undying. I still have it somewhere.
yea, I loved it esp when a ghostly voice says : look around!
HELP ME OUT GUYS.
Okay, I’ve played Dead Space. Never Scary. Doom 3, so predictable! Amnesia? Why do people think thats scary? I played it waiting for the scary but its sooooo booring?
I need a scary game. Silent Hill 2 maybe? I have no idea what that is.
are you on drugs ?
Try Alien vs Predator 2000 as a Marine.
Just one of those fuckasses that think it’s not scary if something doesn’t jump out at you and go “blololololo!!”. No nose for subtlety.
And he must be a fucking hermit. The only people who I know that haven’t heard of Silent Hill watch and emulate Jersey Shore.
Also, I’m surprised I haven’t seen this posted yet.

Nightmare House 2, specifically the part were one the guys is telling you through the window to go into the room and flip a power switch, and you go back and go through the door and he’s a mannequin. I had to stop for a minute and make sure that I was still real.
Also, that.
I have to say that the bear chase in condemned 2 is up there on the list of disturbing moments, but as for an entire game that was just unsettling, I’d go with Limbo on XBLA.
The game had such a great atmosphere about it and I found myself on edge with just about every step. Expecting to die a terrible death at any time. Not to mention the lack of music and overpowering ambient noise just creeped me out.
And the brain controlling worms…
Was that last image from a mod of some sort? Where’s that high poly model image from?
