I feel like I’m watching Thief when he sneaks and moves through the environment, Dark Messiah when he kills, and HL2 when he
looks around.
It’s looking pretty sweet, and that mine thing was fucking awesome

And more Half-life 2 and listening to the background sound.
Holy crap, that’s a lot more violent then I thought it would be. And there’s dismemberment . It looks amazing. And they make fun of Americans because people clapped at the end of the Last of Us demo, the French people there kept having the guy kill innocent prostitutes.
and they say Americans clap at everything.
Game is looking fucking amazing. How I’ve longed for unsubtle abrasive stealth.
My body couldn’t be more ready.
The thing I always hated about open-ended-choice type games is that they all seem to sacrifice ergonomics for gameplay potential. They just seem to jam a whole bunch of features into a game and leave things like weapon handling and (in most cases) AI being bottom rung material. Pretty much every recent game like this has excelled at failing at every aspect beyond interactivity imo. The weapons and AI in Human Revolution were terrible despite the good things about the game, and because everything relies on those two factors the experience felt pretty damn flat to me. Firing a weapon didn’t feel right with tiny ass gun sounds and fucked up aim acceleration that sucked with both the controller and the mouse. The enemies that don’t react at all to bullets and slump into a ragdoll in a dull fashion (ragdull) when their health goes kaput. Even the game’s melee combat boiled down to walking up to the enemy and holding the “win fight” button. There’s no impact to anything. Bioshock had similar issues to a lesser extent, with overly decorated flashy and obstructive crosshairs that get in between me and my target and convoluted menus that get in between me and my powers. The weapon handling and AI was ok, but it still has weird ass acceleration on the controller. It’s like the gameplay choice aspect has been an excuse to skimp out on the individual facets of the gameplay leaving everything dull. Kinda like how humans can run, swim, and jump, but fucking suck at it compared to a cheetah, a shark, or a frog, who specialize in that shit. Jack of all trade and master of none. All that shit.
I’m really thrilled to see that Dishonored has a real immediate and visceral feel about it. When he dropped the body I expected a slow careful body dropping animation that would take 5 seconds and feel like an eternity, but he just slammed it on the floor and went about the game. When he engaged in combat, it felt like branching well thought out COMBAT and not the phoned in holding down a trigger or mashing a button that you’d see in other titles that claim to be a “do anything” game. BULLETS MAKE PEOPLE DIE AND NOT FAINT. THEY TEAR THROUGH CLOTH AND FLESH LEAVING A CONE OF BLOOD COMING OUT OF THE ENEMY INSTEAD OF SPAWNING A RED PUFF AT THE END OF A RAY DRAWN FROM THE PLAYER. God damn it it’s just so CORRECT! It’s everything I ever wanted from this type of game! There is ZERO CLUNK. These games are usually ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CLUNK.
Fucking hell I can’t wait.
I can’t fucking wait.
EDIT: But god fucking damn it they stole my razor wire mine idea. Mother fuckers.
I agree totally
The game’s soundtrack is being done by Christopher Ashmore and Daniel Licht(Dexter TV show),here’s one of the themes from it(different variations of it actually)called appropriately “The Assasin” https://www.audionetwork.com/production-music/the-assassin_33743.aspx …and NO,I am not asking you to buy it
Anyways,I am a sucker for a good use of soundscape in music and this…this sounds really nice.
Really good article about Raf and Harvey over at the Verge. Kinda puts exactly what this game is and why it’s special in context for people on the outside.
Good read, though I was disappointed at the lack of a section for Thief.
I really hope this game succeeds
Actually, neither of them worked on Thief. Harvey Smith never worked at Looking Glass, he was just a QA tester for Origin on System Shock (they published it).
Randy Smith was one of the designers on Thief 2 and producer of Thief 3. You might be thinking of him.
Best gameplay footage I’ve seen yet. Glad to see they’re keeping with the “really stupid guards” tradition. I’m sure the game will get knocked for it, but it would feel wrong if it were any other way.
that audience was kinda fucked up. I thought it was weird for a while when they were cheering for practically everything he did, especially killing guards, but when they actually boo’d him for not murdering that half naked girl, I was actually disgusted.
P.S. Game looks incredible, but that’s old hat by now.
The voice acting cast they managed to get is really respectful(to say the least),Susan Sarandon(Thelma & Louise,The Client)Chloe Moretz(Kick-Ass,Let Me In)Michael Madsen(Reservoir Dogs)and many others https://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/03/dishonoreds-voice-cast-full-of-honored-hollywood-talent/ .
holy shit you need to stop ball hugging anatonov.
so pretty much…nothing original and everything we have seen before?
“you lose all individuality when youre just using other peoples ideas.” - trunk slamchest
dishonored wont live up to the expectations because it just looks like DE:HR 2 or Syndicate 2.
it feels like dishonored is just trying way too hard.
Nothing is 100% original anymore. If it can take good aspects of other games and combine them well then that’s good. And it looks nothing like DEHR or Syndicate.
I posted this on another forum as well but why do they have to hire a-list actors? All it does is bump up the cost of making the game and then people complain about games costing so much to make. It’s worse than increasingly detailed graphics in that respect.
Replace “Dishonored” with “trunk_slamchest” and you’d be right on the money.
Two post above me are funny because it’s truth
Doesn’t matter had Sarandon
I’m playing this game the day that it comes out. It looks super fun and the city-style/artwork in the game won me from the start. I’m expecting good things from this game. October 8, gentlemen.
