Discussion: Are we 2000 years behind?

There where more factors then just religious assholes that thought God wanted them to burn old women (luckily that doesn’t happen anymore, right?). I just can’t think of any but I’m sure it’s not just religion.

I know, but religion did play a large part as they stopped almost all medical progress, as no autopsies could be performed and they deemed Galen and Hippocrates to be right about everything.

So religion killed hundreds of people because God wanted them too, and they inadvertantly killed a few thousand more?

All I know is that America is 2000 years behind their bills. :3

derp

There is no year 0.

Yes there is, it’s the gap between 1 BC and 1 AD.

That’s called “the Interbellum”, you history-inept clown

Wars always speed up the progress of science (nuclear energy, radio, microwaves, etc.).

Figuring out new ways to kill people takes a priority to making the quality of life better.

Yeah, was it not actually a time span of about 36 years? Because IIRC year 0 is just the time when Jesus was supposedly alive.

Isn’t interbellum simply the inter war period?
You know, bellum- war- Latin? “antebellum” “belligerent”
Right?

Edit:
And yes I think the fall of Rome and dark ages that ensued did throw us a bit back.

You can’t just blame the Church on everything, I mean what about the Muslims and the Chinese, what was stopping them?
But the Church still slowed down technology progress long enough we aren’t colonizing Jupiter right now :frowning:

Proof? Seriously, all of this is just theorization, mostly based upon individuals dislike for the current church. Religion was a tool during the dark ages to keep people down. It was not the cause.

Actually, wars speed things up.

A lot of the technology we use today was built with military applications in mind.

Fuck you too.

Derp

This. This is stuff you’re supposed to learn in the first grade of highschool.

EDIT: Does anybody else notice too that none of polytheistic religions slowed down progress?

Back in the day, we weren’t using Gregorian calendars either.

What was the modern 1BCE to the year 1CE was known by different things…such as 754 AUC.

But, yeah, in the modern Gregorian, there’s no year zero. From December 31, 1BCE, the next day is January 1, 1CE. It’s also the year that Doc Brown returns from 1985 to the disappointment that Christ wasn’t born in that year. :frowning:

Muslims and Chinese were making a great progress until they got bored and started fighting each other.

Wars: They DO speed up the progress
Civil wars: They don’t

Well, if you look at today’s problems, wars aren’t exactly helping. Because of money, they can’t and won’t work on stopping pollution, finding better energy sources, etc, since the money is funding the wars. And then they call it a holy war…
