Diablo III Open Beta Weekend

I am playing solo, still terrible lag.

I’m having no lag at all so your computer must be shitty.

It’s definitely not a graphical issue. I have no trouble running BF3, Witcher 2, or Crysis 2 with HD and DX11 patches. Lowering graphical settings in Diablo III also has no affect on the lag.

This is definitely some type of network lag, I just can’t figure out what’s causing it.

So to the left of the rage orb there is a vertical bar that shows your ping. I’m getting an average of 200ms and the game is very smooth for me.

Also, go to Options > Account and see to which server region you are connected to. Mine is set to America, since that’s the only one I can connect to and even though I’m in Europe, I’m getting a smooth experience.

So I played some of it today as a barb. It’s pretty damn fun - music in the game is alright so far, don’t really notice it much. The only thing (which I hope changes later on) that I find odd is the wilderness is much more closed than D2’s, and I do miss the stats screen.

Other then that, it’s more enjoyable than I expected. I like the hit sounds, and “old” tristram is a pretty cool throwback to D1.

Please, play the entire series at least once. It’s a good way to see the evolution of the gameplay, and depending on what appeals to you, you might end up finding things you really like in each one.

If not - then hey, at least you tried.

I saw the ping bar. The game is smooth at 200ms like you said, the problem is I get sever spikes where I’ll be anywhere from 700ms to 2000ms, at which point the game becomes completely unplayable.

I too can only connect to the American server, but I also happen to be in the US so that’s the ideal server for me to be on.

It’s getting a lot better, I’ve actually been able to play for extended periods of time, but the lag spikes are still a huge annoyance and the game occasionally kicks me for disconnecting from the server. I’m guessing it’s still a result of the overloaded servers, but I find it interesting that I almost can’t play at all and you’re having no trouble.

I haven’t had lag problems at all so far, very smooth maxed out too.

Though I am disappointed by the music. It seems like they tried to make some of it in the vein of Diablo 1 - but it’s so “in the background”. I could barely hear it at all except for some of the “action” parts which i didn’t like that much. I had to raise the volume of it so much and it’s still barely noticable except in some parts.

I was really hoping the music would be a bigger part of it, something like this:

But I digress, the game is fun - which is more than I expected, so I’m happy with it. Maybe when the full version is out someone will figure out how to change the music to something more noticeable and eerie so I have nothing to bitch about.

Gonna stop playing now and wait for my friends to play more but online instead.

Constant battle.net connection probably means nothing as obtrusive as music mods. They may allow UI mods, but if they are as strict as they are with WoW, they likely won’t allow music.

Hopefully, D3 wont end like wow.
Totally ruined by the newest expansions. Although I’m still gonna try Mists of Pandaria to see if it’s good.

So… it’s good and all, but… why so many restrictions? What if I want to use a bow in the beginning so I can have some sort of ranged attack as a barbarian? Why bother not letting us use whatever weapon we want? Also, no more identify or town portal? Ahhh

There’s a town portal. I don’t remember picking it up though, the button just “activated” and I was able to use it. (it has a charge time)

The portal effects kinda look like Diablo 1’s TPs

I miss stat distribution though. I liked being able to completely fuck up my characters stats. I suppose this prevents people doing that by accident though, but no more customized builds per-class anymore.

Town Portal is a quest reward. I think you get it after entering the tomb in the willow to get the crown, but I might be wrong about that.

Man, Diablo 3.

I really need to get to work on finishing Diablo 2 now.

I’ve had that games for year and years, but I never actually finished it due to lack of friends and whatnots for multiplayer. Leveling always ended up slowing off at a certain point, it got boring, random games were hard to find. After a while I always just stopped playing, and before I knew it my characters were expired (seriously, wtf was up with that?) and I had to start from scratch.

I guess I’m gonna make a speedrun on singleplayer and actually finish the damn thing so I can enjoy Diablo 3 a-proper.

It’s a damn fun game, probably in my top 5, but the best part is the co-operative playing, which just sucks when you don’t have anyone to play with.

For some reason I always found Diablo 2 was a little too long for my liking.

I played through the game once solo, but if it didn’t have such great coop support I probably wouldn’t have liked it nearly as much. I just always would generally get tired of it by the third act, even in coop.

Diablo 1 on the other hand, that game always draws me right in

Oh, ok. I got disconnected when I was just entering said tomb. I really don’t like the fact that it’s a single-player game and they can just pull me from the server.

I hope you know that there is a difference between network performance and system performance.

It was in context to DinoThrasher’s issues with network lag, which were affecting his gameplay performance, not framerate.

Played the beta too, I agree with the person on this post who said the world is too closed, also music isnt so good.

But its so smooth ! every animation is perfect, the graphics are not good but also not ugly.

Still don’t know if I will buy it tho.

I’ve played D2 with addon many times with my friends.

Conclusion from playing the beta with 3 classes (Witch doctor, Monk and Barbarian):

It’s good. Really good. But nothing more. People have set too high expectations due to the long development time. They thought Diablo 3 would be the revelation. They will be disappointed. D3 is doing nothing revolutionary. But it’s not meant to be more.
The gameplay is smooth and very fun. Especially in coop. The classes are cool, though, I’m disappointed that there is no Druid or Necromancer.

Monk is my favorite class so far. After him there is the Barbarian and the Witch Doctor. The WD is a bit too overpowered. It was “way” too easy playing with him. Blizzard needs to nerf him.

What I really like and what Blizzard has well done is the feedback fighting against enemies. You really “feel” that you enjoy killing even the most normal and easiest enemies. Blood, limbs, bodies are flying around. Ragdolls. The sounds fit. The animations are fluent and amazing. It has never been so much fun fighting normal enemies. (Especially with the Monk and Barbarian).

The music is good, though it didn’t amaze me, yet. But I didn’t listen to all songs yet and Blizzard has produced always good music for their games. I pretty much liked what they have composed for Starcraft 2.

The graphics are atmospheric, but not amazing. But it doesn’t need to be a Crysis. It looks good for me, it fits to the style, period. The only thing I’m missing is a dynamic lighting system. For example, when you walk in front of lamps and fireplaces that it throws a shadow. Even Titan Quest is doing it. And it’s from 2006. But it’s ok.

I’ve played it in German and they have hired many professional voice actors for it. Best german voice acting that I’ve heard since Bioshock 1. (Their german voice actors sucked in SC2, so I was very surprised). They don’t have the accents like in the original language, but it’s better this way.

When they announced that there will be no skill trees I was a bit shocked, since every hack n slay rpg has these skill trees. But now I can deal with this runesystem. You can’t make mistakes skilling your abilities. But it’s a bit disappointing unlocking your abilites with leveling. Unsatisfying. Positiv: You can easily and quickly change your tactics and abilities. Every time.
What I also don’t like is, that they have cut out the runes to upgrade weapons. Well, I can’t say what to think about it, I need to see how much replay value the end content has.

The beta was a bit too easy, but, of course, it was just the beginning.

I have already pre ordered the Collectors Edition and I’m eagerly waiting for it to come out. I know it will be fun. Especially with friends.

A bit too much casuality, but oh well, it will make fun.

How much did you pay for the collectors edition ?

60€ already feels a bit too much for this game imo, but I guess its a standard now.
