Yeah, I had the same problem. I was about to quit from sheer bordom, but once I got to the newyork city streets - I was hooked. I’m playing it for my first time , and I feel like I’m back in the 90s. I can tell why it is so accepted.
Because people today have shorter attention spans and level of interest than they used to? Probably also because DX comes from an era where gaming wasn’t the mass entertainment industry it is today, where graphics come before gameplay.
Opposite for me, Hell’s Kitchen very nearly made me quit. That part was extremely boring. So much walking around and getting lost.
For me, the main point of the combat was for stealth. But then I played almost entirely with the Dartgun, the Sniper Rifle or melee weapons.
That does require a bit of Splinter Cell style patience though.
haha i love this game it has so many good quotes
“my sight has been modified” -deus ex
“watch out deus ex, there is an explosive in this plane” -plane pilot
“that is unfortunate” -deus ex when killed dad of femal
I’ve been meaning to, I really have, but I just keep forgetting to. I don’t have my save file anymore & the idea of going back & playing through the first levels again seems kinda annoying, but i know that If I didn’t, I wouldn’t understand what’s going on.
They aren’t very long. Maybe an hour and a half, if you speed through them.
I just got it for a buck from a GFW deal a few days ago.
I started playing it and the dialogue kept cutting out halfway through the lines.
It is very dated, but I can already tell once I get it running properly I am going to love it.
Not going to happen seeing as how I barely remember anything from the first time I played & I’m the kind who likes to make sure I’m not missing anything.
Oh god damn it. I was just got in the bar and started making ‘mt. crap’ when I scrolled to my rifle instead of the crowbar & got gunned down by the fucking pilot. I quick-loaded and now I’m back at the start of the previous mission and my auto-save is even farther back. What kind of stupid bullshit is this? Every time I die I seem to get set back at least an hour.
make a habit if spamming the quicksave key. Unfortunately for us, this game was made before the general “autosave every 2.1 seconds” mindset that modern games have.
Secondly, if you only do the primary objectives and you play a mainly all guns blazing role, and you are me, you can get through the first 3 missions in about 30 minutes. Then again, I personally always try to do all the extra little side quests all the time now, so it takes more like 2 hours.
Also, in the first 3 missions, every augmentation canister and upgrade is on or just slightly off the main path, so you shouldnt miss them by rushing through. Sure, you will miss a reasonable amount of skill points, but it basically means you will have lockpicking and electronics on trained rather than advanced at the end of the game.
I can get through the first mission in about three minutes without firing a shot.
With mad rushing maybe. But you just can’t enjoy the terrible texture res.
You don’t get any items either. It’s a technique that I tried just to see how it would work, tried it again to see if it was a fluke, and then tried it again some years to make sure I could still do, and then start a new game to play it stealthily, but collect as much stuff as I can.
What a shame. It’s that kind of mindset that makes me not slam my NES controller into the wall.
You can just press the quicksave key regularly. Anyone not stuck to console gaming should do that anyway.
The problem is that we’re so used to auto-save by now that we often forget to quick save often.
You learn quickly.
Yeah, quicksave often, but I would suggest making a manual save every now and then too. Once, when I was halfway through Hong Kong, my quicksave got corrupted or something (this is the steam version).
After that, and for the rest of the game, it would randomly just not work when I tried to load a quicksave. The first time that happened it set me back a good 2 hours :fffuuu: I started to make a manual save for every quicksave after that. You probably wouldn’t need to do it that often though.
I guess it’s just the tutorial. I just started the actual game and am loving it. Hopefully this new one will be good as well.
I played through Call of Juarez recently; I got so frustrated at the far-apart autosaves before realizing near the end of the game that I could quicksave.
I honestly don’t blame people for not being able to get into Deus Ex though - I’m just glad modern games have taught us the opening and lure is the most important part.
