Defense Authorization Act 2012 Obama Drops Veto Threat

Hey guys! It’s me again!

Just want to do everyone a favor by passing some news along and seeing what people think about it.

The Big Brand New "Defense Authorization Act"! Who digs? Who's bummed? Why?

Big Government is Big ... and just got bigger

On a serious note, everyone should not be happy by this at all. I mean this could all be a set up along the same lines as this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enabling_Act_of_1933

If you hate or are apathetic towards liberties you are for this new Defense Act. If you are for liberties you are against this Defense Act. I don't think the line can be any clearer than that.

lol <3 Reb

but yeah, what the hell man

Shit’s wrong dude, let’s go home now

Whaaat?

And Obama is set to sign it into law, too. Well, we can hold out for the Supreme Court, because it’s plainly unconstitutional.

Hey. I wasn’t referring to anyone here. I will admit though, I should have posted this in the ladies club after thinking about it. I misconstrued my own message by the delivery of my comment and the forum I posted in. My apologies guys.

To be honest I'm just saddened, deeply about this. What good is a constitution if laws are being passed to null and void the bill of rights? And a majority of people, seem to be giving up their democracy by allowing apathy to creep in over their sense of liberties as they're distracted by this illusion of the "American Dream". And, in my humble opinion, this New American Dream gives control over to the banks and away from the people. Hence, the patriot act and this new Defense Bill.

So I hope you can somewhat understand why I was a bit hasty on my first post. I'm (We all are) living in a time where America seems to be headed in a different direction than what was once thought. The scales are obviously heavy on the apathy side instead of the democracy side, otherwise everyone would be protesting right now against the new Defense Bill and to take down the Patriot Act.

People still think the government follows the constitution? LOL.

tell me why i dont think its that black and white

I didn’t read it and nor do I have any idea what this thread is about, but I agree with it.

Down with the things that people are talking about!

“When due process fails us, we really do live in a world of terror.”

– JC Denton, in da fresh

Just a quick heads up: The NDAA does not confer any new power to the office of the President and the president is putting a signing statement saying that the detainment powers (that they already had) do not apply to Americans.

You know what, I’m starting to think 2012 will be real. Not the end of the world, but the end of the world as we know it. The planet’s just been getting shittier and shittier, and I predict that by the end of next year, America will be a totalitarian state, or damn close to it.

That is all.

I’ll make sure not to come to you for prestidigitation advice.

the world’s always been shit dude

…And the sarcasm tags aren’t working again. :frowning:

I was hoping someone would point it out.

I like how everyone assumes that this will indefinitely be abused if passed…

it’s not like it wasn’t when the patriot act was introduced. They’re still opening up new detention centers in my state

“Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”
― Thomas Jefferson

Ron Paul actually said that in one of the debates, too bad many people are too stupid to realize what it means.

That’s a paraphrase of Benjamin Franklin, actually, not Jefferson. Though, I don’t think Jefferson would disagree.
