Decay PC port...

I’ve been trying to install the fan-made PC port of Decay but it insists that I install it under my STEAM account, but I only have the retail version of Half-Life and Half-Life Source, but not the STEAM version of HL1.

So is there any way to install this port for the retail (WON) version of Half-Life ??

Thanks on advance.

In your steam games page, click ‘‘Add new game’’ and type in the CD key from HL1, that should add it.

I tried that but it wouldn’t accept it, I’ve already contacted STEAM support to resolve this. In the meantime, is there any way to play this thing with my retail HL1 version?

nope. you will need support to help you get your valve games hooked up to your steam account. once done then you can install decay.

sigh hopefully they can get this fixed in a jiffy.

Actually just copy the mod folder into the folder where valve is stored under hl1 won

Then it should show up in custom games.

Make sure there’s no mod files anywhere else but the mod folder though

They have a WON version of decay as well…

Okay, I got it to work, thanks a bunch :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: In singleplayer, the game says it can’t create a bot so I’m playing on my own. How do I add the other player as a bot?

You can’t.

You basically have to always switch between the two using a keyboard button or play with a friend online.

Yes but it’s just me, there’s no computer-controlled player between whom to switch either!

I was hoping someone would add bot support by now.
Or better yet, add it to Sven Co-op!

Play on LAN and a bot will auto-spawn for you.

The one thing I find annoying with Decay is the lack of saves. Hard to finish all in one go.

Yeah, only done level by level, right? Not gonna lie, it’s a shitty system, but hey, it was ported by only one guy, not too bad to be honest.

It’d be fun to sit down for a day with a buddy and play through it over LAN, but aside from that, I don’t see me playing it.

Well, I managed to get a second player added as a bot in LAN. I knew I had to switch between them but if the other isn’t even going to follow me then this is really frustrating.

Yeah, sure is. Especially on the final level when they favor using the RPG against vorts. They make you fail the boss-battle. Make sure someone else is playing when you do that.

You can play the boss level by yourself with a bot. Just make sure that you have all the rockets and the rocket launcher while the second player, the bot, has none. Also the secret level is awesome. You get to play as a Vortiguant in it.

I’ll probaly wait for the eventual Decay: Source version based on BMS :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t hold your breath. The BM team isn’t going open source with this last time I heard.

They have said before that they will be releasing a .fgd file for making custom maps. Seeing as how BM will have Co-op, no additional coding would really be needed, everything else would be done in the map using triggers and such.
