CSS Skin Help

I tried dumping these files into the cstrike folder, and apparently it didn’t work. Now, I’m stuck with the “no-texture” purple and black checkerboard skin on all M249’s and AK-47’s. Also, the consitency for the M249 doesn’t let me play on some servers, and I can’t use console on my computer, so I can’t set consitency to zero. So, what is the best way to alleviate this problem, and how should I install them better?

Pictards of my woe :frowning:

I can’t help you with the skins, but console doesn’t work? wtf? did you set “enable developer console?”

No, I haven’t tried that yet. This applies to all source games on my new computer. My old one can do it just fine.

Well that’s your problem. It’s disabled by default. Options->Keyboard->Advanced->Enable Developer console.

Can’t help you with your real problem though.

Also, Ramierezoid seems to love this skin, judging from the comments, so why won’t it work when I dump it in cstrike, like how the damn instructions tell me to?

It’s probably a version conflict. Are you sure those are for the latest version of CS? If all else fails, delete your entire CSS dir and start over. You won’t have to reinstall the game, but you should backup all the custom sound files.

Is it possible to just find the files I downloaded and delete them? Or can I just download something over them to replace them?

You can do one or the other.

Just saying, cuz i tried the same with the scout on my old computer, but ended up with a broken world model anyway.

you must be unlucky as ****

You don’t know the beginning of it…

BTW, if I deleted the replacement files, would that leave me with the defaults?

yes, the gcf’s can’t be modified.

You’re doing it wrong.

If you installed them, you should know what files to delete and where you put them.

Alrighty, through dark science and file overwriting, I’ve covered up the ugliness with new skins.

ROUND 2:

I found this awesome model for Source, and I think it would make a rad terrorist replacement (I’m thinking the arctic). Now, it was not primarily made for CSS and it is not meant for any particular model so I can’t just dump it in cstrike, but would it be possible to port it to CSS?

You know whats amazing.

CSS has the worlds simplest way of putting custom models/textures in, and people still get it wrong.

You have the models in the right spot by the looks of the screenshots, I didnt zoom I’m capped.

The textures are in the wrong spot though, thats why you get the pink and black squares.

To double check, open the CSS dir and find the models for the weapons (counter-strike source\cstrike\models\weapons)

All weapons are there, to make sure the texture is right, it should be in the folder “counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\models\weapons”.

To be perfectly honest though, when your installing a skin (if you call it that) you shouldn’t have to do more then drag the cstike folder from the rar and merge it with your current, compilers should take care of the folder structure before uploading.

Any compiler’s who don’t do it this way yet should be banned from doing it.

Yeah, I knew how to do this when I was in 1st grade…

:3 qft, my man.

Yeah, I got it into the materials folder and works fine now.

I know it ain’t CSS, but it would be win if it was.

It will still work if the model is named correctly.

If not, you could always hex edit it so that it will work.

I say put it in the CSS and see if it does.
