Crysis 2 on consoles: share your thoughts

Not to the specification of a PS3, or at least certainly not to a very high standard. Say you want to play Crysis at 1280 by 720 (or more like 768 on PCs), on Ultra High with x2 anti-aliasing. I’d say at least £500 if you’re lucky.

Still, I may be wrong. Do you know of any links to decent and cheap PCs?

You will never find a good pre-built PC for a cheap price that would be able to run games on average to high quality at good speeds.
I strongly recommend to investigate each component of a computer to get the best bang for your buck. Pre-built PC’s tend to be more expensive although they do come with advantages (usually comes with an OS, it’s built for you, warranty over the whole PC).

Usually when I get a new PC I spend a lot of weeks researching which component is the best by viewing benchmarks and also comparing the prices (don’t forget to read user feedback).

I try to do the same. I originally bought my PC when I was 13. It’s 7 years on now and entirely different, but I haven’t yet had to buy a new system. I just upgraded it bit by bit, occassionally upgrading several parts at the same time.

I was just wondering if he had any good links, because I ususually spend at least £400 (over $600) just upgrading my graphics, CPU, motherboard and RAM. Now, I don’t do a lot of overclocking, but I don’t buy the very top of the range components either.

All platforms should be treated as equally well, regardless of popularity/profit, cost or ease of use.

If I buy a good gaming PC, I expect to be treated with the same kind of attention that console gamers get. The games should be built around its capabilities and not just simple ports from the console builds without PC specific features and support. I hate fanboyism, but I also am upset at the sub-par quality of service that the PC gaming community is generally getting as of late.

Just because consoles lead the way in terms of the game industry, doesn’t mean I will stand for lack of standard PC features such as dedicated servers or modding support. We don’t play games on PC to get the same experience as console gamers when it comes to online gaming, that’s a ridiculous excuse for half-assing a game.

Crysis!

That’s all pretty fair. I don’t think PC gamers will run this risk with Crysis 2, as the 360 and PS3 varients will probably be treated more like ports and, therefore, the console owners probably be at a higher risk. That said, the fact that costs and time must go towards all three plaforms does make me wonder how much we’ll miss out on if this game was one platform exclusive.

When developers do things like remove dedicated servers, that’s when you lose faith. It’s a shame that the PC platform is becoming less well supported, given that it’s the platform which used to make the majority of major steps forward and still has far more capabilities than a console. Developers and publishers just don’t put the effort in because the install base is so much lower than consoles.
