Crowbar? Why?

Why not a crowbar?

S

If it was up to me, this thread maker would get aborted.

Lol…Why,i mean…this thread rised up many questions and doubts about using the crowbar in a video game/real life.
I personally like the idea of a crowbar and if i was the game developer who made HL,i wouldn’t had probably thought at a crowbar in the first place…

I read this and was about to reply in disagreement, but the post made shortly afterwards has caused me to share your point of view.

why thank you my mate.

Shovel would be my first choice. Not one of the flat ones, but a spade shaped head and a handle with a perpendicular grip section to it. It would make sense for Black Mesa to have shovels in case of cave-ins or in case they got rubble from outdoor areas. You could basically use the thing like a short spear, and the foot rest along the back of the shovel is perfect for delivering “finishing blows” to downed enemies. Plus the flat head could even be used as a small shield and it would be great for dealing with things like snarks and those homing hornets.

A large hammer would be my next choice. Not a sledgehammer, but a regular one. It’s weighted much better for swinging and even has the back edge of the thing that’s used to pry up nails or otherwise be used to pry objects apart in much the same manner as a crowbar.

no. not shovel.
i rest my case.

I would like to stumble upon a bloody chainsaw.

That’s Doom-thingy. nononoo. I say we stick with the crowbar.

My problem is not the choice of weapon, my problem is the way GF uses it, especially in HL2. Imho, the first person animation makes it appear as if you are holding the bar in the middle and punching forward, which makes absolutely no sense.

It should be two-handed weapon. So you could literally smack the hell out of enemies.

I definitely agree with it being two handed, like I said, a two handed crowbar model and animation would be sweet. Perhaps they could have also made the crowbar longer, I do believe crowbars come in multiple lengths (for varying torque) so that is an option. The crowbar is by far the best choice…it also more stylish and creative compared to a hammer, or shovel.

However, my second choice would be a sledge-hammer of some sort, two handed of course. I’ve thought about a shovel…but that would just feel too out of place IMO. A crowbar has more of an “industrial” feel to it which lends itself well to a facility setting.

You can’t do better than the crowbar for HL. Case closed…you can also see my previous posts as to why.

Oh look, another meaningful thread in the Half-Life section of the forum.

Why do I even go here?

The HL2 crowbar is already pretty damn long; I have a shorter version at home and it’s pretty hard to swing in the same way.

I think his signature is enough of a reason… Mac = PC? What?

Well, it is, isn’t it? PC = Personal Computer. Now that macs are using intel processors, all being a mac means is that it has overpriced hardware and a different OS. I don’t know about Linux users, but I’ll still call it a PC even if it’s running Linux, provided that it’s still for personal use.

Meaningful? Why the hell are you looking for a meaningful thread in a forum for a video game series? What do you want, an analytical discourse on the social impact Half Life has had on countries built on dictatorships and the ramifications thereof? It’s a god damn video game. Nobody cares, and you come here for entertainment, not because of anything meaningful. Otherwise you’d be making these so called meaningful threads instead of getting sarcastic about the lack of them.

But to get back on topic, would it be all that difficult to make a 2 handed Crowbar animation?

Shouldn’t you be making that beeping noise when backing up?

THE ICE AXE PEOPLE!!!
REMEMBER FROM HL2 BETA!

I love the crow bar but it seems too, weird to have the crowbar appear all the time. I want to use a pipe or baseball bat.

yeah i hate crow bars, too! But Crowbars are awesome! :awesome:

Because a baseball bat makes more sense to be lying around a science lab.
