Crouch-jump: all about it!

Something is wrong with the way Gordon jumps because he can jump on things with a crouch-jump but a regular jump won’t reach. It should be the other way around. I wish they would fix it.

So your saying tucking in your legs should make you jump lower?.
Come on it’s fine the way it is, play some REAL half-life.

Gamers these days… they’re used to a protagonist who can jump four feet straight in the air while wearing heavy armor. Spoiled is what I call it.

No. That’s not how it works. When you crouch jump you lift your legs in mid-air. This allows you to reach platforms you aren’t able to reach by doing a basic jump, because you aren’t lifting your legs high enough. It’s perfectly fine. Now run along.

I like how just because someone doesn’t like crouch jump, and they don’t even insult it, gets railed by other users. gg everyone

btw crouch jump IS one of the dumbest movement ideas ever used in games. I hope you don’t piss your pants tonight when you go to sleep because somebody doesn’t like something you identify yourself with.

Why would I identify myself with a movement?

This console code can make it easy for you.

Type in:

alias +cjump “+jump; +duck”

Then:
alias -cjump “-jump; -duck”

and at last:
bind “space” “+cjump”

Easy way to djump.

There’s also this:

Simple fanboyism, nothing to care about.

Next they tell me that it would be more realistic to have two buttons for movement … it is more realistic (one button for left leg, one for right leg).

The fact the fanboys don’t see is that in Half Life crouch jumping was a special (!!!) move used for special (!!!) occasions which made it a special (!!!) feature of HL. In BM it is the normal jump needed almost everywhere. Nothing special about it anymore. It has become the normal jump … you just have to push two buttons now, rendering the purpose of a special jump for special situations obsolete.

And Half Life: QWOP edition was born.

It is annoying that practically every jump requires a crouch but its not major for me. Its a tad more realistic, cause the HEV suit must weigh atleast 90lbs, with its medical thingys and “High impact reactive armor.”. But I don’t play games for realism.

The jump is not as high as the original HL on my system. This is making some areas very difficult to progress through as I have to pile lots of trash up to scale some obstacles.

Is there a command that I can use in the ~console to fix this?

Ive got the same problem. Its really annoying, only on unforseen consequences and its already really pissing me off

i had the same problem however if you try using the Crouching key FIRST and then quickly… the Jump key …then the jumps seem to work fine
places i could not get to (vents and jumping on boxes) now can be reached normally

Regards

Get used to crouch jumping. It becomes second nature after a while. Press space then crouch in quick succession, it may take some time to get a feel for it but it does become easier once you get used to it.

Another tip: enable always run

Try this, works perfect for me

Type in:

alias +cjump “+jump; +duck”

Then:
alias -cjump “-jump; -duck”

and at last:
bind “space” “+cjump”

Easy way to djump.

you need to crouch+jump at the same time…

Put this in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\Black Mesa\cfg\autoexec.cfg

bind shift +duck

alias “+cjump” " +jump; +duck"
alias “-cjump” " -jump;-duck"
bind space +cjump

When you push spacebar it will jump crouch for you

At least Black Mesa has made it easy to spot the people that have never played Half-Life before, such as this guy:

(bonus points if you can watch the whole thing without raging)

I actually auto crouchjump in HL1 and mods but this totally looked different so my brain was like “press space!”
