Crouch-jump: all about it!

:expressionless:
This is really annoying, I can’t manage to jump through broken windows, on to desks, over a small waste paper basket etc. It’s killing the mood dude!

I’ve found that you just have to crouchjump everywhere, not just to get into vents or pipes. It is getting a little old really.

since when isn’t crouch jumping integral to the entire half life universe?

I remember and tried that as well. It’s bollocks all the same.

The biggest problem is that the normal jump literally does NOTHING. It’s completely useless. You couldn’t jump over a soda can with normal jump. :rage:

Since when did you have to use crouch jump on every jump but one or two?

I was about to post a thread about this, but now I see I don’t have too.

Brilliant mod potentially let down by something as simple as an utterly useless jump control mechanic. I’ have to ask, why wasnt this fixed from day one, as crouch jumping really inst intuitive.

Maybe it’s just me, but HL1 was the first game that I remember ever using the crouch jump a lot, and as such it has become second nature for me to crouch jump everywhere, just because it is easier. I really don’t know if that’s just me tho.

You’re not going to be able to just ignore this. I’ll learn how to mod and make a version with a fixed jump if I have to.

I hadn’t even noticed this “problem” for this exact reason.

I crouch jump instinctively.

I have always found crouch jumping to be a dumb mechanic. Oh yeah we crouch jump… for what? To jump an inch higher to reach the platforms… why in all hell is that a good feature? In HL1 or anywhere else?

The only good thing is that you can actually stay crouched while jumping -> but the extra height is and always has been completely silly to me -> the equivalent of double tapping Forward to run instead of just naturally running.

Exactly. BMS is great, theres no place for telling that jumping mechanics is breaking it. Especially it makes you WORK in some places and I like challenge (playing on hard difficulty level and must say - it’s way too easy  ).

@AlanGarou:

Please do. These guys made this game for free for all of us. Such demanding tone is highly intolerable.

ITT: People butthurt because they can’t press 2 keys at once for a split second.

Anyone who has ever jumped through a window or jumped on top of a barrel in the hl universe knows that duck jumping only makes sense. If you want a single press of jump to make you mantle everything ever or make some lame animated jump through a window play COD or BF

BM Uses extensively crouch jumping like HL, get used to it people.

Also

I’ve tried to crouch jump, but every time I do this, he doesn’t jump higher.
I even tried this:https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?p=492518#post492518, but he just jumps up, and crouches.
Does anyone know what is wrong? Thx beforehand.

If you’re having issues with the jump height - falling needessly short of platforms, and waist high boxes eluding you - I have found that turning down the gravity a touch helps a lot.

The default value for gravity in BMS is 600. Turning it down to 500 means I can clear simple obstacles that would normally require a crouchjump (waist high boxes and so on).

Enter the following command into the console. It will last for your entire play session, even if you reload the game from a different save.

sv_cheats 1; sv_gravity 500; sv_cheats 0

Or you could just mess with skill.cfg file located in steamapps/sourcemod/BMS/cfg. It contains all variables about player and/or monsters.

I was just trying your suggestion on inbound tram. If you jump on the tram you go flying backward. lol. Physics Fail!

I’m at the part in Anomalous Materials, I believe, in the forklift room where you have to get into the air duct to get into the control room, etc. Trouble is, Gordon has no height to his jumps at all. I can’t actually get into the crates under the duct without using the ladder from the hallway & getting onto the last crate that’ll put you right in line with it is impossible. Is this an error? Is there something I’m not doing? I’ve seen videos of people running up the crates without jumping at all, so I know it’s possible, but my game just appears not to be letting me do it.

SHIFT+W to run then SPACE to jump let go of SHIFT and press CONTROL to crouch as this will lift your legs up to your body in mid air…
