It’s not real hate, we all love HL obviously, it’s just that some enemies annoy you or you feel that they’re too hard to kill or too scary, it’s not necessarily a negative thing, you might hate something but love killing it for example! 
Yes if it scares you it’s obviously doing its job well, but you can still feel like “oh I hate those so much!”, feeling “bad” when you encounter them, even if feeling “bad” is what you’re looking for when playing such a game, the same way when you’re watching a horror movie or going on the roller coaster.
Thats what I was getting at. I hate poison headcrabs, but I don’t think any enemy in any other game has elicited such a strong response from me, which makes them an excellent piece of design. As soon as I hear that rattle they make I end up blowing up half the room and basically killing myself in the process. Thats before I get to the zombies they make… shudder

The areas with infinite antlions got annoying after a while. I don’t really like icthyosaurs either.

Poison Zombies and Antlions were the worst in my opinion.
And Savant, that pretty much describes how annoying they are, especially if you’ve just been spiked by a poison headcrab, they all say “Here, have this medkit” at once and repeat it until your health is at 100.

When i played it, it had a bug that repeated that phrase evry second, I still remember:

while i’m at it i might as well mention the antlions giving me goosebumps (mild arachnophobia) but also fast headcrabs and poison headcrabs, they have very thin legs and from distance they seem like bugs or spiders…once i whacked a random plank in a random corner and suddenly a dead poison headcrab fell down making his rattling sound. i almost felt it caught up in my hair… of course the source physics engine paid his duties well…
and the ichthyosaur in hl when i fell into the water the first time i encountered one… i was SWIMMING MY ASS OFF…
but i could’t post this in a thread named “Creatures you hate the most”…

Barnacles. Oh my god, I hate Barnacles. Basically, I hate every creature which wants to eat my head. Why would anything on earth EVER eat my head??? I like my head, leave it alone stupid aliens!
Okay, maybe “hate” is the wrong word, because I do not hate Headcrabs at all even though they like eating heads… there just waaaaaay to cute to be hated. Especially the poison ones with their MEGA-CUTE “agagaaaaaaa” ninja-attack sounds.
But every fu**in time something surprises me with a jump to my head, I just scream the shit out of my computer. My girlfriend once sat next to me and beated me just because she was terrified by me - screaming at the monitor.

The icthyosaur scared the crap out of me the first time I played HL1. When I played through HL2 the first time, I kept expecting one to be in the water levels. That damn noise they make creeps me out.
