Counter-Strike: Source Update

Wow. Can’t believe I’m the first to make a thread about it.

Anyway, I want to know what everyone is thinking about the new update. (Provided you own CSS.)

My OPINION:
This update is the best thing to happen to CS since CSS came out in 2004. The hitboxes are fixed, the graphics are better, the game play is smoother, the engine is more stable, the achievements add some fun, the scoreboard it better looking, the MVP awards are fun things, and the game got it’s competitive edge back.

Before You Post: Here are a few things you should read before posting.

1.: The mods like Gun Game, Death Match, War Craft Source, and all the other mods I’m not mentioning WILL RETURN WITHIN A FEW WEEKS! Give it time people.

2.: Lua Scripting WILL RETURN! I was on 3rdEra and HaloShadow said they were working on an LSS update for the new Orange Box Engine for CSS.

3.: Valve is releasing a series of small but helpful updates to make CSS more stable and smooth on the new engine. THE UPDATE JUST CAME OUT PEOPLE! Again, give it time.

Have fun and be nice!

It’s a shame it’s still shit.

I don’t think so. There are many pluses to this update and almost no permanent negatives. The mods will return and all shall be as it once was. Just with better graphics and registry.

:hmph:

I believe he meant that the game itself is still shit.

I’m downloading it now, i haven’t played CSS in ages!

I am not happy because my secondary PC (that was fully capable of playing CSS before) now says I don’t have dx8, and when I put a dx8 card it said my CPU doesn’t support SSE, fucking amd athlon.

Well, I just lost 10-20 frames and it’s not the multicore rendering
situation because I don’t have multiple cores. The interp rate is
messed up, the voice chat indicators are stupid and the score
board isn’t as translucent anymore. Not to mention the end round
pop up. Don’t like any of it and just installed it after playing for 7
years because they made the game play horrid now. So I’ll just sit
back and get all the HL:2 / Ep1 / Ep2 achievements until HL:2 Ep3
/ P2 / BM:S goes live.

CSS achievements are useless…

It’s pretty buggy on my side: The acheivements menu is Fubar, it has a lower framerate, it doesn’t work on widescreen anymore and the textures are wierd… Otherwise the update is fine enough and playable, I just hope Valve fixes these issues soon.

i find the update great. haven’t played this in a long time but it’s fun again now.

fucking engine updates

nice thing though is that it got rid of all those cunt shit cheaters

Yea, I see why some of you would be upset. Most of these bugs people are saying, messed up achievements screen and what not, are only for some people. I must have gotten a clean update because I’m getting none of these bugs at all. As I said, Valve will be releasing a few minor but helpful updates in the next month or two that will make the game and engine more stable.

I have found a fix for the so called “surrender animation” people have been getting. Type these commands in console to be rid of those horrid animations.

There’s the fix.

IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE FREEZE CAM: (Which I did not.)
Go to Options> Multiplayer> Advanced> and Check Off the “Do Not Show Freeze Cam” or something along those lines. It will get rid of the freeze cam or kill cam as some are saying.

As for frame-rate drops, that is just because of the new engine supporting better graphical advances. Advances like better HDR Lighting, better texture render quality, Multi-Core Rendering, Better AA and AS Quality, and the list goes on.

Why are people complaining about achievements? I find the achievements give the game a more fun experience because it gives you something to do if your bored. Go achievement hunting; it’s fun.

One more thing. People who complain about the forced 66 tick servers, there’s a logical reason for it and I shall tell you now.
The reason for 66 tick servers and not 100 tick anymore is because of the Orange Box Engine. A 66 Tick server on the OB engine is the equivalent of a 100 tick server on the EP1 Engine. 66 Tick on the OB Engine runs better and smoother and is more compatible with the engine and game play then a 100 tick would be. The 100 tick servers on OB were messed up and Valve forced 66 tick so the game play would be more stable and flow better.

Once Again, Thanks

People take CS too seriously. CS is not supposed to be taken seriously. I find the whole “competitive” side of CS ridiculous for a myriad of reasons I don’t feel like explaining.

CS is also a bad game for not meant to be taken seriously.

I don’t understand what’s wrong with being competitive in a game.

I was shocked by the negative responses to this update. I don’t measure my fps, but I’ve never really gone below 60 for any valve game on this computer. I like the new engine, I’ve had absolutely no problems and the game seems to run much smoother now.

The one thing I don’t like is the achievements, I think they’re a bit over the top. Overall, it is still a great update.

You can get achievements on listen servers, with bots, with cheats on. Sooo, which achievements can bots not give you?

Besides of the graphical improvement you can turn everything off.
And if you don’t like the updated engine, go play cs1.6 and have fun shooting through walls.

EDIT:

Oh, and I use whatever weapon I feel like using at that time, even autosniper and pumpguns. I hope the pr0 1337 hax0x0x0d0ersrao340235 don’t mind.

That is why I usually get kicked or banned, I don’t think about CS seriously so I never look at my rank and then people get pissed off because I make faggots ragequit.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
