Countdown on the BM website

what the fork?! please why this hard tease?!

To get people hyped.

The link to the Black Mesa Workshop if someone wants to check the 5 items :wink: : https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=362890
I managed to acces to it by looking for a link with the inspect the element tool.

Cool. Thanks for the link.

the steam release is the retail release. That is what the devs have been saying all along

OHOHOHOHO.

I’m ashamed for not catching that, but I’ll live. I’m too impressed and excited to be upset.

FWIW, the SteamDB entry that used to be called Black Mesa (https://steamdb.info/app/221140/graphs/) was last updated five days ago. Interestingly, it has a different AppID than the Workshop.

What’s interesting is that the Workshop ID (https://steamdb.info/app/362890/subs/) has updates going back almost a month now and was last updated 6 hours ago. Not knowing how Steam works, the best guess I have is that BM was moved to a different AppID recently for one reason or another. The only other thing I can think of is that BMDM and BMSP have different launchers for whatever reason, but I don’t think that’s the case, as 221140 had a peak player-count of 15 near the end of March… Which, IIRC, was when the MP stream happened… Right?

Yeah, Catz already explained that to me via PM.

It is a topic that is very VERY easy to get bass ackwards sometimes. Specially when the types of phrases being thrown around are ‘mod’ version, ‘steam’ version, ‘greenlight’ version, ‘paid’ version, ‘free’ version, ‘earthbound (1-14)’, ‘xen (15-18)’ and there are even some that mistakenly believe HL3, opposing force and blue shift are in there somehow?

Perhaps we can sort it better this way?

  1. Mod / Free release

[list=1][]Earthbound
[/
:m][*]Steam greenlight / Retail release

  1. Earthbound
  2. Multiplayer
  3. Xen
  4. ???
  5. Profit
    [/*:m][/list:o]

This is the part where a few people start debating whether ??? is just a meme or a super duper cryptic hint.

I still think it makes more sense to just say free/paid. The free versions are more or less identical in content to what’s been released, the paid is the entire, feature-complete package.

The confusion came from that to begin with. Like I said to Catz, I thought both were coming to steam but one was free, the other not so much. But she IS right, it can get pretty easily mixed up.

Whatever the case, it’s perfectly clear now imo.

steam=paid
torrent=free

Interesting splash image. Was the H.E.V. suit redone since the New Year? The last picture we had was of an H.E.V. closer to HL2’s version but that one looks like the “regular” Mark IV.
EDIT: After taking a closer look it looks just it’s just the old H.E.V. model…

I’m pretty sure that’s just an old image entirely.

that was one of the promo images made for SFM I think?

Another Deathmatch map has just been added a few minutes ago: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=436435502&searchtext=

Yet another one has been added: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=436679194&searchtext=

Nothing interesting, really.
I’m guessing the map recreations are going to be a part of the base game, while the SP-based conversions are getting the workshop treatment?

Seems that way for now.

Ok watching the countdown anyone else notice the cryptic voices in the background or the fact that it rarely flashes an image of Gman standing in a star field similar to the end of half life?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
