Ok, Nihilanth…fleeing from XEN…yadda yadda yadda…When the portal storm that occurs after Nihilanth’s death occurs, the combine notices it, discovers earth’s existance, and sends in the Race X of aliens through the other portal created by the resonance cascade…and orders the gene worm to hold it open. One Shepherd destroys the Gene Worm…the Combine realizes what a valuble asset the human species can be, and uses the remains of the two portals to launch a full scale attack on Earth, resulting in the 7 Hour War

The Combine retro fit their army with the technology of the world they want to control its more than likely that Shock Troopers are biologically engineered to fight Vortigaunts and used to conquer Nihilanth’s home world. They may even be part Vortiaun giving the visual similarities. This could also explain the similarities between the Gene Worm and the Tentacle. The fact that the Spore Launcher may be a baby Shock Trooper doesn’t contradict this.

The only thing Il say about this though is Race X appeared in Black Mesa just before Nihilanth’s death which would mean the Combine where at lest suspicious of earths existence before the portal storm.

Well…

Creatures like Headcrabs and Houndeyes wern’t sent…they fell through the rift and killed people through instinct…while the intelligent life…the vorts…were the ones who were sent.

It’s possible that the first few Race Xians just fell through the portal and killed everything in sight…

Just to clean up, Nihilanth is not a race of his own. He’s a combine-created chimaera. Pay attention to the fact chat he has STINGS from his middle arm and down over his bellow.

He’s obviously related to the vortigaunts…with the arm on his chest…but he’s not the last of the XENian vortigaunt species…so what else would he be the last of?

Its quite likely he was inslaved and experimented on by the combine. most likely to be used as a weapon.

The vorts and the alien controllers may be a subspecies at different points of evolution.

I never said he wasn’t related to the vortigaunts. Actually, most of the sentient Xenians are. Alien Grunts and Controllers both have the same skin colour and amount of limbs.

It is being speculated… elsewhere that he means that he’s the last standing in Gordons way.

Well, if the Nihilanth was the last of its kind, then the controllers weren’t it’s kind. Also confirms that the Nihilanth was never even captured by the combine, let alone made by them.

Lack of any acknowledgement of it’s events or characters in Half-Life 2 & Episodes. The only thing close is that they’ve said black mesa was nuked, but even that hasn’t really been mentioned in-game.
