That is a good point. I’m going to tweak the list a little to make sure that gets mentioned.
One thing in the console defense is LittleBigPlanet. I think that it works much better on the PS3 than it ever could on the PC.
ITT: penis sword fights.
The controller suits the game more. I know you can plug a controller into a PC, but just the way the PS3 interface is set out just seems to suit the game.
I know I am not stating a good enough reason, but it is just an opinion that I and many other people have.
So it’s an opinion based of no logical reasoning at all?
I bought half a dozen game pads from CC that ARE the PS3 style controller for $1.99 each. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the PS3 controllers on sale for that low price.
Well if they made a shitty port of it, sure. That’s because the interface was made for controllers.
I don’t see how it couldn’t work just as well on PC with an interface actually designed for PC.
This is also the part where I call you a little bitch that says shit without thinking but when you get your ass kicked you fall back behind cover with your “hey man, I was just kidding! You don’t have to be such a dick!” bullshit.
How would you like if your country was constantly bashed every day and you see me talking shit about how everyone in your country is retarded? Oh, but I’ll slip in lines like “a large majority” or “a good chunk” to make it seem like I’m excluding some individuals, and when I get my ass handed to me, I can fall back on the “a large majority” or “a good chunk” lines to make it seem like the “ass-hander” is “an ignorant fuck.”
I must say, it’s a very effective way of trolling. Well done. You sure did fool me.
Edit: Also, I would also like to point out how after you said “a majority of Americans are stupid”, you claim that that statement is an “undeniable fact”, when really it’s just your trollbait.
Also, I wasn’t making a comment about how “un-American” the comic was. I was talking about how the OP used it as a way to wank his PC fanboyism. I may have misinterpreted it, but he posted some anti-PC elitist comics with good points, but then posted the comic. This lead me to believe that he is implying that he is a PC fanboy and anyone who does not think consoles are “worthless” must be stupid, and thus, must also be an American.
You are truly a prophet. I jest.
My comment was meant to attempt to embody my opinion that both sides have equal worth, making this thread little more than a penis sword fight. It made sense to me.
It’s really more of a matter of preference IMHO, consoles tend to have a wider variety of games, but can’t match up to the control intuitiveness and versatility of a PC. Then there is of course ports and hacks that emulate console games on the PC that raises their library of games. PCs also tended to have much more power up until recently when this gen began catching up to it in terms of RAM and graphics, though I think that it was really the PC that paved the way for such things, seeing as the components of modern consoles are very computer in nature.
If you purchase a console you may run into the problem that certain games aren’t available for your console (especially if you picked the wii, or early in the PS3’s life), forcing you to either miss out, convince a friend to buy it, or get the other console. This way you end up spending much more money than it costs to make yourself a fancy gaming PC. Plus, PCs tend to have a longer life unless you drive it into the ground, as they are rather cheap to upgrade.
So, let’s say you wanna maximize the amount of games you can play on the consoles, so you buy the big two: 360 and PS3. You’ll be spending around $600*. Then, most games are between 50 and 70$.
For $500 to $600 you can get a top-of-the-line super gaming computer. Computer games also tend to be cheaper, ranging anywhere from $5 to in $45 and sometimes $50. Plus the prices of PC games tend to decline faster in my experience.
It’s all rather unimportant to me, though. I’ve never had the privilege of being able to get a current gen console, but I’ve always had a near or current gen PC. I’ve also always had friends who had all/most of the systems, or at least the ones I wanted to use, who were kind enough to let me use their systems. In this way I’ve been kind of lucky, never needing to feel left out from certain games. Except Lost Odyssey, I really fucking wanna play that game.
Also; PCs have modding, don’t have to worry about spending money on DLC, and homebrew doesn’t involve ruining your warranty.
So, there’s my bit.
*: if you buy an old 360 or bought one early in it’s life you may have even run into an RROD or two, costing even more money.
Best thread summarization ever.
the classic mouse and keyboard has never been beat for the FPS genre, point click shoot with the right hand, walk, turn, run, crouch and jump with the left hand easy, comfortable, top gaming,
Sport games with repetive button bashing is better with a controler, cause you got that nice grip with your hand and your thumb free for some serious bashing
Platformers, are edged just slightly by the controller but thats cause i’m a retro nut
RTS and Simulation are also pipped by the mouse its alot less fiddly to do
Puzzle games on the majority are better with a mouse, again point and click, examples Breakout, Zuma, Bejewled
Action/Adventure is normally easier to play with a controller because theirs a lot of jumping involved, and jumping is normally easier with a controller, the mouse does get a little merit for better aim
Racing games are generally a lot easier to play on a contoller with a trigger for accelaration and your thumbs to swerve
Beat 'em Up, though normally favoured by a classic arcade controller, is won by the console controller, for the same reason as the Sports genre
So the scores
PC 3
Console 5
So I can’t believe I’m saying this but a Console Controller just edges it but it’s based on what you play
EDIT: Remebered another Genre
How about this:
It all depends on your needs as a gamer. I want to play with friends and play games in my favorite franchises, which is why I have an XBox 360 i[/i], a PC (Valve/classic PC games/emulations so I can go retro), and soon a PS3 (METAL GEAR SOLID 4 FUCK YEAH!!)
My family also has a Wii, but wii barely touch it anymore (hey look! A pun!)
All this boils down to is opinions. And when it comes to trivial shit like this, opinions don’t matter.
Besides, the OP posted a “Console vs PC” thread in a mostly PC centered forum. Of course there’s going to be a TON of bias and fanboyism!
If you are refering to console emulators like the Snes and Megadrive, not trying to start a flame war with ya like lol, but that’s stealing and based on your strong oppionons against piracy doesnt that contrdict your beliefs? And by the way Wii rules, Resident Evil 4 is amazing on the Wii, as is Zelda and the best game on the planet currently (It’s orignal, addicitive and insanely fun) Super Mario Galaxy! But of course we are all entitled to our own oppionons…
Yes, emulations are technically piracy. I’m not going to seriously try to defend it, but… well, you try tracking down an MSX2 console and an English translated copy of the original two Metal Gear games. That’s all I’m going to say.
Edit: Also, Emulators isn’t ruining the retro gaming industry. You know, since the manufacturers aren’t even making those consoles/games anymore. No one is neither making or loosing money from emulators.
Piracy of recently released PC games, however, are devastating to the PC gaming industry.
But I know emulators are still just a lighter shade of black, so I’ll shut up now.
Also, I agree that RE4 on the Wii is one of the best games ever made, but it’s also on the Gamecube and PS2. Yes, both Mario Galaxy and Zelda:TP are awesome, but they’re really just remakes of Mario 64 and Zelda:OoT on the N64. Okay, Mario Galaxy has a much more beautiful soundtrack and levels than Mario 64, but that’s about it.
Other than that, it’s all mini-games compilations and EA Sports Workout games. Nintendo hires the best talent in Japan and doesn’t do shit with it.
Yeah, the Wii DEFIANTLY rules! [/sarcasm]
omg i love the orignal metal gear on the nes, how truely amazing was that game, wait for it wait for it, zzzz, run, argh a dog, get to the next screen, get to the next screen, love it lol. Sorry just had to comment about that
Not if you’ve purchased a copy of the game, then it’s archiving, which is perfectly acceptable. Or if the game is so old that the companies don’t care anymore.
I’m all for piracy, but emulation still has it’s purpose for people who don’t agree with it.
EDIT:
You’ve actually played Twilight Princess more than ten minutes, right?
Hahaha. The NES version SUCKED! I’m talking about the Japanese MSX2 version.

The most epic introduction in 8-Bit history. I love it!
Now if you’ll excuse me, “I feel asleep.”
Yes I have. It’s more of the same with new shit and better graphics. That’s not a bad thing at all (Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite games ever), but for Christ sake! Stop the nostalgia-fest, please! Bring some innovation to the games (you know, other than swinging the Wii-Dildo like an idiot to use your sword)!
I honestly think Nintendo needed to do more ports of old games, having the greater number of games would have helped things, but it also would have demonstrated all the various ways that the Wii remote control scheme could have benefited a full variety of game genres. 3rd party titles have been absolute shit at figuring out how to use motion controls. Hell, I could do better.
I’m still going to bring Metroid Prime Trilogy into the mix. I’ve only played Metroid Prime Corruption so far, but the control style is as close as any console game will ever come to a PC FPS. In terms of absolute accuracy, it’s a little weaker, but it actually provides better immersion than keyboard and mouse are capable of since your accuracy is dependent on how steady you can hold your arm in the air, the same as you would have to do if you were actually shooting with a gun.
No More Heroes will be interesting to see how it does for 360 and PS3. The graphics were never as important as the artistic style for that game, but even more important was the visceral feedback that the motion controls provided.
Star Fox could have had some awesome controls, and it would have been worth it even if all they did was port the two starfox games that were for gamecube forward.
I really do need to get ahold of Okami for Wii sometime. I’ve heard a lot of complaints that the Wii controls aren’t as easy to use, but a lot of these people don’t seem to be able to hold their arm out and steady at the same time.
No
Stop it
This will lead absolutely nowhere
