Congratulations on releasing Black Mesa

Dear Black Mesa Dev team

I have been following your work since the beginning. When I first saw the trailer back in 2008 I was amazed at the work you’ve done and couldn’t wait for 2009 but after hearing it needed more work i was sad to hear about it. so I all waited till you released part of the game and I was amazed at all the small details you’ve added to it. This was a true homage to the original half-life game. I cant wait to see what else you guys do in the future. So congratulation on soon releasing Black Mesa on Steam.

Thank you guys for your dedicated work on your game

I would say congrats too, if I wasn’t deceived all along.

Can be sure I’ll spend all the time I’ll happen to dedicate discussing BMS, to boycotting this product.

Reason? You’ve deceived us! You went from “will always be free” to “we have to make you pay a little 'cuz volvo” to “20/25€”.

You’re disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Do you want to WORK and EARN with a mod? FINE! But state it from the beginning. I’d be willing to drop you even 30€. But luring me in and then putting on a huge price tag.

You can be sure I’ll be the first seeder of cracked copy.

Have fun with my IP.

You do know we announced we’d be going retail and charging roughly three years ago?
Happy Birthday Half-life!

Sounds like a good and healthy way to spend your time.

To devs, congrats! Finally the community will be able to give something back for your hard work.
As soon as I can I’ll buy the game.

I am actually really proud of the Crowbar Collective (formerly known as ‘the devs’ ;-)). The Steam release is an awesome milestone and I do actually hope you guys get the rewards you deserve for all your hard work on the game.

Congratulations! I’m so excited for you all. This must be a wonderful feeling!
I’ve already bought BMS and here is hoping that the remainder of your development cycle has immensely boosted productivity with the influx of funds!

Big congrats to everyone in the Crowbar Collective! You’ve done a massive and truly great work on something very iconic. I’m just in the beginning of the game but I’m still able to see and embrace all new details of the retail version.
It’s a game I’ll gladly pay to play.^^

Congratulations on releasing Black Mesa on Steam! Thanks for your continued time and efforts in taking Black Mesa from being an ambitious mod into a great, modern, recreation of one of my favourite games. It has taken a long time to get to this point but I feel the standard set by the devs is pretty much outstanding. I’m enjoying jumping into Death match as well which is frantic and chaotic at the moment (as it should be). The selection death match maps are gorgeous and responsible for a few of my deaths as I stood to take them in. I am quite impressed with DM as it feels pretty polished.

Hopefully some of the naysayers and harsh remarks will settle down but I imagine it is not great to see when you are celebrating another release. It is the Internet and people are entitled to have a moan but I think some perspective is needed. To continually grind away on the mod, to make it a standalone product, change engines, commit to future patches, new features and provide ongoing support in my opinion deserves payment. I can understand why some people are angry and I suspect a few may not have been following the mods development closely. Some people just seem to be having trouble with the idea that the devs are now working on and supporting a retail, Steam, version. The mod version is already released, there should be bug fixes and a patch for in the future, but after that the mod is done.

I am looking forward to the future updates, Workshop add-on, and off course the Xen chapters. I wish the devs the best of luck and I hope they are proud of what they have managed to do over the years under the circumstances.

Sir I find nothing to be overly upset about with your post. Perhaps you misunderstood some information and that cannot always be helped. What DOES hurt my feelings a bit tho is your last statement.

I kinda feel bad for the people (person?) whining about retail. I hardly played NS2. I bought early since I’d had such fun with the original HL mod. BMS can shut up and take my money :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Congratulations to the big release!

There will always be people that are negative, just wait a bit and they will change their mind

'Grats, you’re on the front page:

Thanks for all the love and support guys!

And to those of you who feel betrayed, you still have the free version, we’re not getting rid of that. You never have to pay for the mod; but we are a retail game now.

  1. I’m not ‘whining’
  2. I will not keep myself busy boycotting this game. I will only encourage my friends to don’t buy it.
  3. I think there is a difference between low price and 20€. Perhaps you decided to sell it for 20€ and discount it in the future.

Hubicorn… you wrote so on the forum (forgive me if the rest of the team will bite you now)

I don’t believe that 20€ is the lowest possible price.

Then sorry if I’ve been harsh but… I’ve already stated why I disagree with you.

On top of this, congratulations for the transparency:

You’ve got some smooth moves there, among the administration.

However, I apologise for ruining the party; thanks for having listened and feel free to get back to the celebrations: I’ve said what I had to say and I’ve nothing more to add. I disagree with the price tag, but I’m none to tell you to make it the 50% and give an extra copy to those who paid 20€.

Cheers!

Don’t like it don’t buy it, that’s all.

You will never be charged to play the mod it’s still free.

Congrats to Crowbar Collective!

I paid almost 60 bucks for a bloomy remake of LOZ Wind Waker, I’d definatly fork over 20 for Black Mesa. It’s totally worth it.

And I don’t believe you’ve seen the amount of money people charge for engine licensing. We’re talking 6 figures or more - And while that’s no longer as much of an issue now, with many engines going for a royalties model, it doesn’t retroactively apply to groups that have already shelled out for the license.

Also, when you factor in that games are starting to go for 70€ and higher , dropping 20 for a quality game that’s receiving free updates isn’t a bad deal at all.

But if that’s a big deal to you, just play the mod version, since it’s still free, and, like CS 1.5, always will be even if the commercial version still exists.

Uncut mods still works for this version? i love those maps, will be them included on final or future release???
