Congratulations on releasing Black Mesa

They will be made available on the workshop, hopefully within a few weeks max.

Pick one.

I’m almost in tears. $20 is not a huge price tag, unless you’re someone incapable of getting a job, in which case you have far better things to bitch about. In comparison to other games which are often at $60 for equal or less content, that’s without a freaking doubt “relatively low.” Likewise, they’re still not making you pay for the mod. That’s still free. But even so, don’t you think it’s a bit unreasonable to complain about only arguably going back on a decision the team made a decade ago? Things changed a lot in that time, and I’m sure this has turned into something much bigger than the team could have ever imagined, and has eaten up more of their life, too.

As someone part of a team discussing this very issue, I can vouch for this. Having a commercial Source license opens up lots of possibilities that you couldn’t do in the free engine branches, and it feels basically like a must-have. But it also has a nice price tag in royalties attached to it. Potentially being out that kind of money is a scary prospect. If they wanted to break even without being overly optimistic about sales, this was a reasonable price.

Admit it, you just don’t want to pay any money for anything ever, and have to do whatever it takes to paint the developers as the bad guys.

Congratulations, u guise. I was more than happy to do my ~day 1 purchase~ contribution to the Collective.

Just to play devils advocate here for a second, but I cannot afford the $20. I have not bought a new game in the last 2 years. I have a steady job at the moment, hell I’m making salary. I cannot for a single second waste any of my money on a hobby I enjoy. I have racked up debt in the past years because of college, rent, and other expenses, that I have to follow my budget, and sadly live paycheck to paycheck with some days eating nothing but a few scraps from work/my family. And I’m not the only one in this world with this situation; a lot of people are. Now don’t get me wrong, the minute I do have the money I will probably buy it because I do wish to support the friends I truly have made here (since the fucking beginning.) Plus a lot of the people are just fucking assholes who are greedy shit bags who want a free ride, but we will always have those types. I’m just saying don’t lump up all of those people who really cannot afford either the money nor time for said hobbys.

End devils advo.

Yeah, but there’s a difference between people who can’t afford it due to actual financial problems, and people who just won’t pay for it on principle and try to justify it by “the devs lied to us!!”.

"Plus a lot of the people are just fucking assholes who are greedy shit bags who want a free ride, but we will always have those types. "
Ehem.

Congrats to Crowbar Collective! I can tell you guys have been working your butts off for this. I will gladly pay $20 to support you guys

Point is, no one who knows what they’re talking about is trying to conflate the two groups.

Also, for the record, people change their mind all the time. Would you honestly expect someone to say one thing 5 years ago and say “welp, I said X 5 years ago, therefore I cannot possibly change my mind or opinion” ?

Yeah, I’m not saying that either you can afford it or you don’t have a job, just that it’s not a steep price at all. I guess “affordable” would be relative, but as far as games of its caliber come, it’s a good deal.

Thanks for all the kind words everybody! It’s been really intense for us the past day and we hope you all enjoy the result!

Honestly? You little piece of shit piss me off! I already bought it cuz i have no problem with 20€. I would also pay 30€ or even 40€. I don’t care about prices if something is worth it. Maybe earning money instead of cracking could be an option to you little poor scum?

@Devs: congrats! I can’t wait to see what you have done the past 3 Years!

All I’m going to say on the matter is that I’m perfectly willing to pay for Black Mesa, but only when it’s finished. So your on my wish list for now but you have to get things done for me to invest.

I think people bitch about the price simply because no Xen.

And i think they bitch about the price just because they’re retarded trolls without money. To get Xen would have been nice though.

I can imagine the amount of work you must have put in, I definitely appreciate it and I am sure the game will be remembered for a very long time (until someone makes a new remake in about 15 years)

If I had put so much blood sweat and tears into a project and produced such amazing result, only to have certain people bitch and moan about it’s $20 price tag, I’m pretty sure I would have deleted certain people’s forum accounts and posts without so much as a second thought.
In contrast, this too is a tribute to the character of the devs.
Well done Crowbar Collective!
I can’t wait to check the game out, and the final chapter when it arrives, and VR edition / mod when it arrives too!
 <3

So what does the purchasable version have more than the mod? Is it only a way to fund the developers? Why not donations instead?

Also thank for answering and uhhh so many fanboys attacking. You don’t do a great service to these people you know? Only show that the fans are [insert negative adjectives here]. :l

Some of us wish to work on this game full time to get it up to the quality and standard it deserves. A donation model is not sustainable in the slightest, this has been proven time and time again. The reason any of this has taken so long is because everyone works on a volunteer basis, and has a real life and jobs and well…are human. Not only did going retail give us engine level access; something which isn’t possible without a license, it also allows us to commit more resources to further improving the game to the quality we all want.

This post details just some of the things the retail has which the mod does not. It is substantial, and that list isn’t even close to exhaustive. People who are saying this is the same as the free release 2 years ago are flat out completely wrong.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
