The rocket was supposed to send a signal into Xen which the Lambda Team was supposed to use to close the portals. But that failed because the Nihilanth was holding to portal open. Which is why Gordon had to travel all the way to the Lambda Complex and go to Xen to kill the Nihilanth.

Bloody Hell…I think that, at some place, at some point in time, there is a cure for your stupidity.
One reason great games are lost on this newer generation: poor graphics. It’s aaaallll about the graphics, eh? sigh
Anyway, I find that the reason this very thread exists is the reason the hl series has done so well. They give a very limited historical knowledge to the player, yet they themselves know everything that has, does, or will ever happen in the HL universe, but they also at the same time don’t reveal absolutely nothing and just hand a garbled plot of nothingness to the player.
Dunno, somethin that just fascinates me about the HL series and its plots

I were just CERTAIN there was a connection between “husband” and “husbandry”…
There is a connection, it’s just old and not, well, used very much anymore. Husband literally means something like “manager” or “master of the house,” (and, as a verb, “management”) the -ry suffix means the action/profession of such (like carpentry). In terms of an agricultural society (which English society was) this could mean banking or finances (and, indeed, husbandry can be used like this, but you probably won’t hear it often), but most often would mean taking care of the farm. Husbandry generally means anything relating to the keeping of animals (producing the grain for them and taking care of them) but over years of linguistic drift we get something along the lines of:
Management -> Farm Management -> Farm Management esp w/ regard to animals -> Farm Management esp w/ regards to the breeding of animals.
So you were correct in relating the two words, the time period you related the words in was just off by a few hundred years or so. I wasn’t making fun of why you thought husbandry means what it did so much as the sheer insistence that he was an idiot for saying what he did. (And, for the record to someone further up in the thread, marrying Antlions would be Antlion husbanding, though that’s an archaic usage).
But surely if he has never played the original HL its a good thing. There are still minor but noticeable bugs in the original release.
