Concerts/Live Music

We have a now playing thread, but what about live music aka the best kind? A place to discuss their favorite live bands/musicians, shows seen live, and any upcoming tours.

I guess I can start off.

I have seen a few bands live, Pretty much all after I graduated High School and moved to a city that bands bother coming near.

Seen: (trying to stay in order, my favorites are in BOLD
Goatwhore
The Acacia Strain

The Devil Wears Prada
The Number 12 Looks Like You
Amon Amarth (met them after the show and had them sign my concert booklet)
Darkest Hour (met them with Amon Amarth)
Chimaira (Twice)
Job For a Cowboy (Three times, terrible each time)
Every Time I Die
Shadows Fall

Evergreen Terrace
36 Crazy Fists
Trivium (Probably the WORST band I have ever seen, I walked out)
The Human Abstract (Twice)
Protest The Hero
MyChildren MyBride
Opeth
Enslaved

Clutch
Baroness
(my buddy and I were probably the only 2 people at the show who knew who Baroness were.)
Lionize
No Quarter (Led Zepplin tribute band)
Obscura
Neuraxis
The Faceless (twice)
Cannibal Corpse (I am the proud owner of a drum stick thrown into the crowd during the encore)
3 Inches of Blood
Between the Buried and Me
In Flames
Torche
The Dillinger Escape Plan

Best show was probably the Opeth and Enslaved show last spring. The black metal band Wolves in the Throne Room showed up and were set to play but they couldn’t fit their set list in with the time constraints. I got to meet them otherwise, the show blew my mind.

Upcoming shows:
Just bought my ticket the other day for:

Then, beginning in 1996, I began attending something called the HFStival, an annual festival of alternative rock.

In no particular order by year (the ones I bothered to watch):
1996
Foo Fighters, Presidents of the United States of America, Jewel, Everclear, No Doubt, Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, Dishwalla, Garbage, Jewel

1997
Beck, Jamiroquai, Echo and the Bunnymen(!), Blondie(!!), Mighty Mighty Bossotones, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Reel Big Fish, Soul Coughing

1999
Limp Bizkit, Chemical Brothers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Moby, Blink 182, Offspring, Goo Goo Dolls

Then I stopped going. (Dammit, they had Blue Man Group in 2000!) After that:

Yanni
Mannheim Steamroller (just last month)

I don’t go to concerts much. 1996-1999 was a rare exception.

I haven’t seen a live show since Pantera, Soulfly, Morbid Angel, and Nothingface back in November/December of 2000…

I’ll put together a more involved list of who I have seen tomorrow or something.

Faaaaaantastic. They were opening for Billy Talent, and I didn’t know who they were before that but when I heard them, I loved them.

Too many to mention… getting on for 30 years ago I used to supplement my beer money as a student by working at venues around the midlands in the UK either selling programmes or roadying.

Some of note to pull out of the list…

Led Zep at Knebworth 1979
Pink Floyd doing The Wall at Earls Court 1980
The Who at the NEC B/ham 1981 (although I went specifically to see the support band, a RnB group called 9 Below Zero)
The Honeydrippers (Robert Plants RnB band) North Staffs Poly - spent the night getting drunk with RP after that one)
Queen at Milton Keynes Bowl in 81 or 82

Memorable ones at the Poly in the early 80’s

Angelic Upstarts - riot ensued, poly smashed up.
Dexys Midnight Runners - riot ensued, Kevin Rowlands got smashed up
Toyah Wilcox - Toyah strips, riot ensues…

Last gig I went to was to see the Fun Lovin Criminals in Manchester 5 or 6 years ago. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.

Voodoo Glow Skulls

As I Lay Dying

I sure have forgotten quite a few, gonna edit this if they come to my mind

They came to my city last night. I was laughing at all the metalheads. They all looked the same, wearing black with metal T-shirts, the occasional pink mohawk. Funny stuff.

I’m not really one to talk though, I was running around in my boxers in protest of our increased tuition.

I don’t see the problem, since metalheads do not claim to be unique or special.

They pretty much all do around here.

Then they’re idiots

Going to see these guys this Sunday. And these guys tomorrow.

Then, after that, the next one will be the Pixies on May. o/
