Computer Parts Checklist

EDIT: Switched computer parts around with suggestions in mind and updated total price

I’m looking into building a new gaming computer, and I was wondering if the parts I chose are OK, as in are they compatible or are there better alternatives. I would like to be able to run Battlefield 3 on this on at least medium. My budget is around $1500. The total price for this checklist is $1,342.27 (with the G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB ). I’m also not quite decided on which computer case I should get so help with that would be appreciated.
If I don’t end up building this computer, I am wondering what is your opinion on the ASUS G73 gaming laptop.
Thank you.

First.

seems kind of low for that ammount of money, why not go for a series 6 amd card and a higher or more modern amd cpu? like an x6 1090 for 60€ more, stuff like that.

You could easily get a pc that runs bf3 on high for that money

at what, posting a non helpfull stupid answer? yay for you!

Thanks for the feedback. This is my first time doing something like this so I don’t really know much. Do you have any other suggestions for the other parts like the case?

The case really it more up to personal preference than anything else. You just gotta make sure it’ll fit the rest of your parts which, if it’s anything other than a mini case, it should. I have the Antec Twelve Hundred that you listed and love it. It’s a little annoying cleaning that front filters and adding hard drives but overall it’s nice. It has a lot of fans to keep stuff cool.

Also, I see you’ll get either Ultimate or Home Premium. If you’re not running a business then I don’t think you’ll need anything that comes with Ultimate. I’d stick with Home Premium.

I would personally get this case over the antec 1200 it has removable drive bays, tooless design, cable routing, cable management and the case has just been updated two years after it was made. And it also has great cooling even with the stock fans, and I’ve personally owned one for the past two years.

I have a HAF922 and would recommend them to anyone. LOTS of room, excelent airflow and very quiet.

Mine has red LED’s instead of blue and an open grill instead of the window like this one, but with no side fan (not really needed anyway).

I’d definitely upgrade to 8GB of RAM and futureproof yourself for that, if you have the extra money, since it’ll be worth it in the long run. Make sure the CPU you picked fits into the CPU socket on the motherboard, I haven’t checked on either so I dunno if they do or not.

Also, I’m not sure if it really makes any difference but the PSU looks like it’s at least geared toward Intel and Nvidia, though I’m not sure if it works exclusively with them or not.

As it´s been said, the case is up to personal taste, you´ll be fine with any antec case : )

I´d like to recommend you further but I´m not very up to date on knowledge on amd/ati products, if you went for nvidia/intel could help you no problem. But I´m sure there´s others here who go for amd

Would the CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB ) be okay?

Just make sure that the RAM is compatible with your CPU and motherboard.

I actually bought this same RAM a fortnight ago and am pleased with it. Also, as well as making sure it is compatible with your system, make sure you have enough room under the hood for the RAM as it is very high.

Computer parts?

What about…

EDIT: I quickly put together some parts on newegg. Granted, its a little over your budget, but note the key differences: you’re getting two 6950s, which are each light years ahead of the 6790 (can’t stress this enough), and a considerably better processor.

If that’s too expensive, take away one of the 6950s. Still a CONSIDERABLY better system falling under your budget.

He doesn’t need 8gb of ram 6gb is more than enough for now, hell even 4gb is barley used for video games these days.

The price difference isn’t that much. I’d say paying ~$40 for 8gb is fine, but yeah, 6gb should do him well too if he needed to cut a dollar or two.

I’ve got 16GB; I’m so futureproof. Anyway, if you want to save a few bucks on the case, the Antec 300 is a pretty standard mid-ATX gaming case that a lot of people use and recommend, and it’s around $60 last time I checked.

Also, I have your monitor (the asus VH242H), and it is marvelous. Thumbs up there.

Unless you’re mapping or modeling, you’re not going to need 16GB for a long fucking time.

Mapping. [color=black]Maybe. Eventually. Gotta get my ass in gear first.
