Computer lags while playing 1080p video

I don’t understand this problem, but it’s really getting me mad. I can play online 1080p videos from Youtube or any other site, but when I try to play a video or movie from my own files in VLC, it lags. I have an ati 5870 so it can’t be my videocard, my CPU is a 3.4GHz so that’s fine as well if it has anything to do with it, and my moniter is 1080p DVI or HDMI, I use the DVI, are there any idea why it’s lagging?

too many apps running?

Check your CPU and GPU load during playback. The .264 decoding should be done by the GPU but it’s possible that it’s not set to. A 3.4GHz single core CPU can’t handle it alone. Also make sure you’re not doing anything HDD-intensive at the same time.

Download Media Player Clasic Homecinema or CCCP

offtopic: damn firefox 4 is going to be nice.

^That. VLC has given me trouble with big files many times.

yeah media player classic is great for big files/1080p in general

Thanks for the help, I’ll check it out when I’m home later today.

VLC blows. Use something else.

Sersoft, is that like a beta or demo of Firefox 4? Because it looks really nice. I wouldn’t mind testing it :stuck_out_tongue:

ALL THIS HATE. I USE VLC AND LOVE IT.

But hey, if it’s the cause of your problem, drop it :stuck_out_tongue:

try change the mode in vlc

yep, and it works great

I made a similar thread a long time ago, I overclocked my quadcore to 3.4 GHz and then it worked fine on VLC. Otherwise use Media Player Classic.

It might sound weird but DivX Player does a good job when it comes to HD. MPC boosts the brightness a little and everything looks a bit washed out. There’s one rendering engine inside MPC that corrects this problem but it’s slow as hell (don’t remember its name right now). Try comparing video quality/performance with DivX Player.

Of course unless they’ve changed it in some newer version but I was looking for an answer about 1-2 months ago and it was still there…

Try Media Player Classic GPU Accelerated Version (mpc_gpu).

It’s the only player that can play smoothly full blu-ray rip movie (40 GB ) on my computer… :retard:

Thanks for the help, Media Player Classic ran it perfectly. I’ll be using that from now on, I didn’t realize that VLC wasn’t very good.

VLC is still a great program that can play a wide varity of formats but as I said the last time this was posted
