Community Games, Take 2 - Play with the Devs!

Remember back when I wanted to play some HL1 with the Black Mesa community, and we did a few games together? What wonderful days those were? What fun we had? Ah, it was beautiful. You don’t? Oh. Well…I remembered you :’(

I’ve been having fun doing some more community things recently and gearing up for some future fun stuff, so I wanted to start doing this again. Basically, I quite feel like playing this game, called “Half-Life”. I don’t know if you know about it or not, but I heard from quite a reliable source that it’s quite an okay game. I’m not convinced, myself.

Help convince me. On this Sunday (the 23rd Nov), at 10PM GMT/UTC (or 5PM EST), I want to put this groundbreaking theory to the test…with you, yes - YOU!

During this time I will be hosting a Half-Life server on the East Coast (we find it’s the best compromise for US and European pings), called “Top Secret Public Official Unofficial Black Mesa Half-Life Server”. The server will be free to join, limited to 24 players (not for lack of server space – but we don’t want total chaos!), and will be running a rotation of HL1’s stock maps (with the exact map dependant on the player count at the time). It will run, and we will be playing, until we feel like stopping! If you feel like playing, stop on by, join up, and play some Half-Life with us! I’ll try my best to be active and facilitate a nice gaming experience for all involved, and have a chat with you guys too. Sunday is our usual testing time, so there are bound to be a fair few devs around.

Just be prepared to get killed, shit talked, killed again, shit talked some more, and then killed once more. In the nicest way possible, that is. But seriously, we’re gonna have some fun. “Why do this?” you ask. The answer is, because I like video games. You should too. Let’s play some video games! I also think we have a pretty cool community, and I’d like to play some vidya with you guys.

Disclaimer: This is all entirely off my own back, because I want to play some HL1 with our community. It shouldn’t be taken as a precedent, nor does it reflect anything the team is doing. I’m not sure precisely how many devs will be involved – but I certainly will be.

Why are these kinds of events always so late and always on Sunday

staying up late at night on Saturday would be no problem at all, but I need to get up early to school on Monday and I imagine thats also the case with most people here

The only reason why I’m complaining is because it’s not the first time it happens, late at night at Sunday is like a standard when it comes to live events with devs

anyway I hope you guys will have fun, I guess I will have to resort to watching a recording or something

Sweet! It’s been a long time since I’ve played some MP… anything.
A little HLDM sounds like just the thing.

I’ll try to be there, time permitting.

…I’m gonna die a lot…

Nice.

Edit: Damn, I’ve just looked at the time converter, and it tells me that’s a day I’ve got to go the uni. So I won’t be able to make it. :frowning:

I’ll try to make it there.

I don’t know if I’m off that day, but if I am, I’d definitely join in.

I’m sorry you can’t play. I can try to record some clips from it - that might be fun.

Sunday night is the best time for Brits and Yanks. It’s Sunday, so nobody is generally busy, and 10PM follows our standard Black Mesa test, and is around 5PM for most Americans. I’d hardly call 10PM that late - I work a full time job and don’t normally go to bed until 1 or 2AM :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the rest of you, see you there, hopefully. Please spread the word! Tell your friends!

Well, it’s 11 pm for me, so it isn’t that much of a difference. I’m curious though, if you work at a full time job and don’t go to bed until 1/2 am, at which hour do you wake up? How are you not sleepy at work all the time? Is it caffeine? :frowning:

Oh goody, I’m off on Sunday! If I’m awake, I’ll be joining the fun.

Steam HL, not HL Source, right?

Yeah, I don’t have HL: Source. If it’s that one, I won’t be able to attend. Vanilla HL for me.

It’s normal HL. Goldsrc.

Grrr. Why did my computer charger have to stop working?

I can’t even get a replacement until the following week, so I’m going to have to miss all the fun. Hope you all have a fantastic time!

I’ll try and pop in.

Server is up! Play with us, gents!

Despite terrible infastructure spread out between 180 people, I still managed to have a good time.
Somehow. I blame you all.

that was nice, thank you !

I heard they revealed key ARG hints, apparently in the final version of the mod, the test chamber is an oven, and Gordon is pizza.

Also they cut Crossfire and Morloc is a cock or something.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
