Made this for class.
Not funny at all, I know.
Some people in the back of my Pre-cal class were crying a couple of weeks ago. “Numbers… that… that aren’t numbers… OH GOD BAWWWWW”
But, did the dad piss himself, or is that just an unfortunately colored shadow?

What do I win?
The square root of -1 ftw
Leonard: At least I didn’t have to invent 26 dimensions to get the math to work.
Sheldon: I didn’t invent them. They’re there.
Leonard: Yeah? In what universe?
Sheldon: In all of them, that’s the point!
I, um, didn’t get out of high school algebra (I know what a polynomial is!), but can someone explain why using imaginary numbers is viable? Shouldn’t the math be able to work without imaginary numbers? Seems to me, from my uneducated viewpoint, that imaginary numbers are variables just crammed in to “make it work”. Am I wrong?
Making it work=working.
Kind of like how my motherboard is suspended on twine and the plastic ties that came with my PSU. Works awesome.

Rotation in most video games uses a system called Quaternions which use complex numbers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternion

Complex planes use complex numbers which in turn is used in electronics application (AC Circuits). https://www.phy.duke.edu/~fortney/physics_52/AC_circuit_note.pdf
just to name a few…
to quote wolfram
"Complex numbers are useful abstract quantities that can be used in calculations and result in physically meaningful solutions. "

Most of the material you learn in lower divisions of math provide you with training with critical thinking and prepare you for higher mathematics( if you so choose to continue learning math of course…)
Older than the internets. Literally.
i² = -1
:fffuuu:
I like it when numbers become trivial and you start replacing everything with symbols. It’s like being high except you’re graded on it. I also like using the reflexive property to stretch an equation out and then end with the starting point. It really pisses my teacher off.
e^iπ + 1 = 0
only if n = PI
All my friends are i.
Look closely and you’ll notice that is π not n
Silly forums…
Haha, I love that.
I miss studying maths and science. Ah, for the halcyon days of being in education. Having said that, I work with beer now, that has it’s plus points too.
:fffuuu: :aah:
If math wasn’t so chumley with science, I’d have it whacked.
And youre in a precalculus class? Hmm?
These definetely dont match for me.
Yes Im double posting.
Ok, I went to your website.
Respect restored.
And Im absolutley totally 1000% serious, if you have any precalc questions I would be super glad to answer them.
None of you freak about about me offering math help and using 1000%.
I wonder why I have to add a disclaimer to everything. Guess on the BM forums any tiny mistake and you will be slaughtered.
