combine look low tech

if the combine are so avanced why dose most of there equiptment look like it beongs in a mussem.

examples

  1. there masks look like the gass masks sean in ww1 movies
  2. they are useing helecopters
    3.C4 tripmines
4.there armor can’ take more than 5 rounds.
5.they suck (of cource i have only plaed the game on easy)
  1. So what? The HEV looks like a spacesuit from a 1920 movie, yet it can cure cancer right out of you while holding your broken bones together.
  2. Their helicopters look badass though.
  3. Simple, yet so efficient.
  4. and 5. Yeah, try on hard.

1.they may look like them, but they may not function the same.
2.they have gunships which are a lot more effective, and the helicopters are really tough.
3.how do you know it’s C4?
4.yeah, I agree, it’s weird how gordon can take like 50 rounds with human made armor but armor made by an advanced alien civilization can take 25, tops. (for the elites) but they have striders and the advisers.
5. yeah, having 1000ish combine killed by a single human wouldn’t do there reputation any good.

If you want an example of High-tech just look at the citadel.

Most of the enemies you fight are combinations of human and combine technology.

  1. They look like gas masks, but I’m sure they have more advanced properties.

  2. Have you not seen the gunships/dropships the combine use? They’re far more advanced than any modern aircraft I’ve seen.

  3. We have no clue if it’s C4. If it is, why would they go through all the effort of creating/importing a new type of explosive if there’s already plenty available on the earth that would work just as well.

  4. Fair enough.

  5. Again, I doubt this. Most of the enemies you fight are just humans who have been altered mentally and physically to some extent. They’re still susceptible to human error and vulnerabilities for the most part.

on 3 its smaller than a grenade and has a bigger damage area.
more
6.only one of there guns look like its high tech the rest look like they raided a millitary armory.
7.not actuly on the low tech area but the combine are to stuppid to use a grenade launcher on a smg how the hell did they build the striders and gunships.(there bio mechanical.)

  1. Again, if there’s already something available, why go through the effort of reinventing the wheel?
The combine likely found a weapon (namely the MP7) and found it best suited for the needs of Civil Protection. As such, they adopted it. The AR2 is a mix of alien and realworld tech, which and is generally only used by soldiers, who would need more advanced weaponry.

  2. The Civil Protection officers and soldiers using the SMG are humans recruited by the combine, and have nothing to do with the development of combine technology and weaponry. Again, human error on their part.

And I think I remember being hit by a few SMG grenades on occasion.

but still the smg has a grenade launcher and they don’t use it in hl1 the military uses the atatched grenade launchers. but combine can’t figure out how to use them.

Since when are helicoptors or C4 low-tech? And I don’t even think that there is body armor that can stand 5 bullets, let alone the dozen or so that it takes to kill a Combine soldier. Calling brand new and prototype weaponry such as the MP7 or OICW low-tech doesn’t show much credibility, let alone using the same term to describe non-existant weaponry such as a C4 trip-mine. If it WAS C4, it would blow up the entire building you are in with tons of force.

I do recall being hit by a few SMG grenades on occasion. I could of course be mistaken. But again, Human error. The HECU in Half-Life are US Marines trained to deal with such situations.

The Civil Protection and Overwatch are mostly humans who either sympathized with the combine or wanted better living conditions/rights. I’d assume they were only given a crash course on the operation of the weaponry they were provided.

what i mean is they are low tech compared to most of the things you hear about them in the campain.

dragon skin armor i think can take more than 5 rounds. (any one know why ist called that)

you have me at the c4 trip mine.

The MP7 doesn’t even have a launcher attachment on the model, the grenade is for gameplay only. If a crazed man in an Orange suit was running at you with a bloody crowbar, the last thing you would do is flip open your trajectory sights, open up the tube, load a grenade, lock it in, and fire it at said crazed man, who by that time has bashed your fragile head in with said industrial appliance.

Dragon Skin isn’t really used by any military force, and I don’t know how many HIGH-CALIBER rounds it can take, let alone plasma charged ones.

good point but think of this atleast someone has to be smart enoth to load a grendae befor a fire fight. (yes i have seen 1 to many war movies)

Basically the “low-tech” your are seeing is absorbed human technology being used for the purposes of human control. Obviously the advisors that are the primary combine race (i think) arent going to have some kind of futureistic gas mask invented for humans, especially since they seem to want to live in a “polluted” world (look through breens portal at end of half life 2 and they are draining earths resources to adapt it to theyre own likeing kinda like teraforming).

If you look closely you can see the combine does have advanced technology, the striders, the pulse weapon, which by the way has its secondary fire which is equivelent to the half life soldiers useing theyre grenades from the smg so they arent as dumb as you say, the combine gunships are another high tech example, the citadel and its contents(Teleporters, the core, the energy orb tech)

The combines abilitie to turn humans into cyborgs is another technological feat. If you try playing on hard(how its meant to be played) you’ll see that combine armor can take more then 5 bullets. Again, the lowtech is just absorbed human technology. Unless you think cyborgs, advanced robotics, synths, teleporters and a towering mechanical structure is lowtech, in which case, your just retarted.

Dragon skin armour? You are addicted to WoW. Where the fuck are you going to find a dragon.

Look, I think the answers you want are simply these;

  1. BAD AI.

  2. Or maybe when VALVe decided to let the Combine use the grenades, they would constantly spam them ruining gameplay entirely, forcing VALVe to disable the alternative fire for the Combine.

  3. OR maybe, the AI for the Combine was developed long before the player’s weapons, meaning the alternative fire could have been a last minute addition.

Thank you.

He’s playing the game on EASY.
And I’m positive that the combines alternative fire was removed due to playtesters finding it too hard/annoying, much like the demomans 6 grenades being reduced to 4.

Well, when someone says dragon skin armour you think actual dragon skin not some prototype military term for a kevlar vest.

Everyone but you so far has correctly discerned the real type of armor from the fake type of armor.
