I am not against guns, nor do I fear them, nor do I want to have them taken away, but you’re not entirely correct here.
The right to keep and bear arms is for the security of the free state (including protection of self, family, and property) and to protect it (the country) from all enemies, foreign and domestic. The militia, which is what the 2nd Amendment is talking about, can be called up, by the government, to suppress insurrections (people that go against our government).
Our government is kept in check already by We the People. We can oust anyone with delusions of totalitarianism, authoritarianism, or despotism with a simple pull of the lever. If they try to overstay their welcome (such as remaining within the houses of Congress or in the White House), they lose all that power as soon as the new people come in. The new President has the authority to have the previous President escorted out and possibly charged with trespassing. Same, too, with the Congress. That’s how our government is set up. The right to keep and bear arms may have used to be to protect against a tyrannical government but that was before we had a Constitution to limit the power of government.
In this case, the pen really is mightier than the sword.
Now, back to the arguing.
