CoD a Counterstrike wannabe???????

By popular (or in this case critisism) i will revise this OP

Here i want to list some possible inspirations in Mw2 maps

it is more evident in mw2 (because that was the last game the old/good infinity ward made)

the following is comparisons of possible inspirations from cs to cod

mp_Terminal = cs_747?
the most obvious part is the airplane’s very presence; but also how the enterence of the airplane is on the left side of the plane (when looking at the back)
there is also a back ladder to enter the 747 from the rear
the repective airports also have a prominent window scene in front of the plane http//www.themodernwarfare2.com/images/mw2/maps/terminal-prev.jpg[/img]"]

mp_karachi = de_karachi
actually this one is actually a fact since the original map maker works at old infinity ward and remade his own work for mw2 (though the mw2 version is much more balanced than the 1.6/source map)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dful8tMiqxs

mp_highrise = de_vertigo
Highrise at one point in development was named “vertigo” and the latter was also set on a skyscraper. Although in mw2 there is a mix of construction and offices

favela areas = de_rio (custom map)
both maps are set in brazil, but most of all, they both have a small soccer field within the playable area

updates to this post will happen (when i get back to it lol)
but now is the chitchat time

besides the fact a cs mapper works at old/good/talented IW, and how CoD roots from quake engine (when most devs would opt for unreal engine…) Cod seems to inherit the cs spirit (lets not forget mw2 is what skyrocketed the love for cod)

and as much as i hate to admit it, even the pc community loved it; loved it enough to try to make mw2 better (which is why we had somthing called “alterIWnet”)
loved it enough to make a buttload of mw2 mods/skin projects for 1.6/css

Not sure if trolling…

Could you pleeeeease specify which comparisons you’re trying to make?

I recognized none of the maps in your post from what I know as “CoD” (Call of Duty).

its more of a spiritual kind of thing, you sort of have to pick up what was inspired;
like in terminal, the airplane is the biggest evidence of inspiration from cs_747

I think he’s just stupid.

Are any of the weapon calibers the same? It’d be an awfully big coincidence for a gun in each game to use ammo of exactly 5.56mm, instead of 5.51mm or 5.60mm.

I second this notion

+1

Before I agree with everyone else, could you elaborate on this? Is it seriously just the presence of an airplane, or is there some notable similarity in the layout or something?

…Ah, who am I kidding? I can’t possibly imagine why you would choose to post your arguments here instead of a CS or CoD board unless you’re trolling.

I don’t think that what you are saying is at all remotely true…
A planes entrance is pretty much the same with every plane… ?
Everyone likes a bit of soccer sometime too.

Either way the 2 bloody games are completely different.
If you would like to make comparisons, please make them more clear, screen shots etc

OP, if you rephrase your post to say “CoD an FPS wannabe???” you might have better luck getting people to agree with you. As it stands, I’m afraid that your comparison is a bit meaningless, to put it lightly.

This.
And besides, I pretty much see any modern war based game has the same ideas present. Maybe because it’s all in the same era, with the same tech, with the SAME FUCKING PROBLEMS? Because, heaven forbid, we have a 747 takeover in two games based off of modern war, where the opposing force for the US and it’s affiliates are terrorist/insurgents, which is a group portrayed as suicide bombers and plane jackers. Or a desert town, since last I checked, there was quite a large amount of sand in the countries these are based in.

A more interesting observation would be of how Team Fortress Classic’s map casbah has a vague resemblance to some Counter-Strike maps.

Hint: It’s because it was made by a CS mapper.

I thought this thread was about how Modern Warfare ripped-off CoD, which was already a pretty silly thing to say, but it turns out it’s just even more… meh. I thought he was going to riff on gameplay or something.

The world hasn’t changed much since counter-strike, since it was made when international terrorism emerged. Favelas, middle-eastern locations and urban settings are all standard in these kinds of games. Since CoD grew exponentially tasteless since 4, the existance something like russian spetsnaz battling chechens or other “non-traditional” locales became an imposibility. Since, you know, those crafty russians can ONLY suport terrorism, instead of being the victims of it.

but when you think about it an anagram of mw2 is warranted foe worm so you can say that cs wanted mw to come alogn as a nemesis, something to eat, but then became like a worm in like its becoming waay to popular so that cant be a coincidence

“these kind”

i keep seeing that

it’s THIS KIND or THESE KINDS

singular vs plural, not really very difficult

Ooh! English grammar spanked by someone who lives in Belgium. Assuming his first language wasn’t English to begin with.

Either way, he’s right, though.

I saw a plane in a similar setting to the cs_747 scene at the Kingsford-Smith airport in Sydney the other day…same plane, same airlock, same concrete the plane was grounded on…

coincidence? I think not.

yeah, I find my English is better than that of a lot of native English speakers (I’m not one)

Good lord, it was only one word I oversaw when proof-reading. Besides holding down the shift key isn’t that hard either. Cut me some slack, I’m from Chile and I learned english by myself.
