Can't decide what to do.

It’s only 10 dollars, you call that a waste of money?

Yes, you should give it to charity instead.

So a decently well done port of one of the greatest FPS games is a waste of money?

Just because they barely changed anything in HL: S doesn’t make it bad. It’s different than HL1, and not what fans were expecting (which is sort of why we’re all here) but it definitely wasn’t bad. Just less good.

Yeah, it’s kinda like an official source port.

You’re being ridiculous.

After I played Half Life from my CD for the first time, I played source ever since.
Why? Because it’s got chapter select; it crashes less; easier to install skins; still active multiplayer community; automatically gives you more npcs in Gmod; easier to use cheats; fits my monitor better; etc, etc.

Don’t act like the game is bad just because it’s different. It’s not like they George Lucas’d the thing and removed parts of the game and drastically changed parts of the game – it has plenty of advantages.

  1. Learn the HL1 maps instead, its pretty damn easy. map c1a0 etc
  2. HL1 never crashes. (Only HL Rally crashes)
  3. Skins? Really? No.
  4. HLDM is way more active than HLDMS, I’ve never seen ANY active server EVER on the Source version. Check out Adrenaline Gamer if you’re up for a challenge
  5. Easier to use cheats…? What.
  6. Half-Life works in all resolutions.

Why waste time learning the HL1 maps when the Source version does it for you? Hell, most of the stuff you listed is opinion. Just because HL1 never crashed for you doesn’t mean it doesn’t crash as much for others. Just because you don’t skin doesn’t mean someone else does. Just because you can’t find a server on HLDMS doesn’t mean someone else can’t. I don’t have a rebuttal on the cheats thing. The only thing that’s actually fact is that the original works in all resolutions.

ooh - I want to play!

  1. Yeah, fuck simplicity – lets commodore 64 that shit.
  2. It really depends on the situation and pc, doesn’t it?
  3. What? I can’t like skins?
  4. My bad – but there are active source servers.
  5. Level needs to be restarted when you activate cheat menu in console – it’s just tedious.
  6. Really? I thought I remember my old Half Life CD not having an HD option. Are we talking the Steam one err…?

I’ve beaten the Steam HL at 1920x1200, so yes, it supports HD resolutions.

Really? That’s interesting; I might have bought that version if I had known.

Anyone else have the CD version of Half Life?
Mine broke some time back, but I remember getting the source version because I thought the steam would be the same as the disk, which wouldn’t solve my resolution problem.

Then again, my memory sucks, there might not have been a resolution problem to begin with.

  1. Yeah, a pattern is really hard, c1a0, c1a2, c1a3, c1a4, c2a1.
  2. The only HL(mod) to ever crash for me is HL Rally. I’d like to see the actual game crash for anyone.
  3. Why would you like skins? How?
  4. Compared to the amount of active AG / HLDM players, thats nothing.
  5. No, you don’t need to restart anything if you use the -dev startup command.

Okay, whatever dude - you win. Just stop talking to me.

Does parrot copies count?

Perhaps.

Well, that’s yer problem raht there. Listen dude, if you positively must have some type of return to black mesa…you know before “Black Mesa” (registered trademark) get yourself a copy of HL: s and download this mod.

Yeah. That’ll keep you busy for a while.

If you still have the CD Key just put it on steam. Then you get all the old gldscr games on steam.

Or if you have gunman chronicles you can also activate that CD Key on steam and get all the old gldscr games. :retard:

Yeah, I’ve got it in my EP2 case. I think I bought it off steam as well for some reason though. I honestly don’t think it matters which version of HL you play; I’ve just gone for Goldsource because I love the feel of a REAL 90s shooter.

I heard that in Somalia they try to keep pirates at bay.

I have the CD version, max resolution is 1280x960. My CD broke too, but i managed to pull it from my hard-drive, but it has no music.

Just as I thought; the source version has way better resolutions.

Still, the original is the best, but throwing the Source version under the bus simply because some fans are overly-clingly with the original.
I love goldsrc, too, but some of you are merciless against decency.

The only thing I really don’t like about the source version is the Skybox being changed in Surface Tension when you’re on the side of the mountain.

Regrettably, I spilled orange juice on the thing ages ago and warped the whole thing. I threw it out after I realized that it was beyond repair, but even if I still had it, it would be illegible.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
