Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 "roadkill.ff"

I just got MW2 for PC(yes i have the correct specs), and I crash as soon as the little intro-ish thing ends with “roadkill.ff”. Right now I’m reinstalling (via Disk.) and I was wondering if it was just a little problem that happened while I first had installed it or if it was a serious problem I can’t fix and I need to pay another $59.99 for a new copy.

Alot of times, problems that occur right after the loading screens can be graphical, because the loading sequences are just videos being played. So try to update all your graphics drivers and any other related software that may need updating. If it’s a problem with your copy there’s no way you need to pay that much again, just bring it back and say it didn’t work.

I sincerely doubt it’s related to your copy of the game. The last thing in the world that you need to do is buy a new one.

Yeah, definitely try that first

I did reinstall. It’s just the same error with a different file. I’m Verifying the Game cache before I take the time to reinstall.

That didn’t work. Looks like I’m wasting ANOTHER 30 Minutes of my life reinstalling.

Try uninstalling and throwing out the disk.

Try shutting up and keep the trolling where it should be, on Facepunch.

Try downloading the game off steam.

And waste 6 hours and 17 minutes of my day? Sorry, no.

Buying another copy of the game wont fix your problem. Steam does an integrity check of the game files every time you launch the game, so if the game files aren’t 100% exactly the same as the files on the master Steam server, then the game wont load. Even for single player games.

Hence, downloading the game or reinstalling it wont do anything. Your problem lies elsewhere.

So you can’t access any of the in-game menus? Have you tried launching the game in safe mode? What are the specs of your computer? And, more importantly, does the game give any error when it crashes? Anything at all?

There’s always one douchebag in every forum thread. Lovely; thanks for your contribution.

Search the steam forums. There’s bound to be someone having the same problem as you.

Ok, My friend and I have both been having this same issue recently. What you have to do is just WAIT for like 3-5 min after the screen turns black. The menu will eventually come up. I have no idea why it’s doing this…I think it is related to a recent update.

Solved it. Whatever file is giving you trouble, you have to look for it and delete it. Steam will automatically download a good copy of the file.

Good ol’ Steam. If ever I need to clear out some useful game saves, or I am going for the final push on cp_gravelpit, Steam finds a way to crash my game, delete my stuff, or, more annoyingly, strip me of my unlockable weapons, delete them, and then piss on my desktop with advertisements for games who do not even have mothers for me to insult.

Add the game to your Steam list. I know that I got Dark Messiah of Might and Magic through retail, but since it is a Steam supported game, I could upload it onto the games list on my Steam page, and now I don’t need the disc to play anymore. You should try that.

You can also save yourself a reinstall by telling Steam to verify game cache integrity…that solves 99% of errors related to problems with a game’s data files.

sounds like a problem with the game, not the distribution platform, maybe that’s just me though

He tried that, (he mentioned it earlier) it didn’t work.

Well, if you hadn’t bought the game you wouldn’t have that problem in the first place.
