The part that bugs me is not that the game isn’t serious and shouldn’t be taken seriously, it’s that they’re TRYING to be taken seriously and a lot of their fan base takes them completely seriously.
That is true. And the more the games are taken seriously, the more their little “homages” start to seem like blatant ripoffs.
I do recall playing MW2’s SP and one of the levels was exactly the same as a scene from the movie The Rock
I see what you did there.
Looks fresh and new
I think the seriousness adds to the humor of it. It’s common knowledge that only amateurs use the wink-wink hey everyone look we’re being silly haha attitude
Strike Force actually sounds interesting. Honestly they should just replace the whole campaign with strike force and put all their effort into that and multiplayer. Obviously Treyarch couldn’t have actually made something fun, so my guess is Strike Force hasn’t been focused on nearly enough to redeem BOII.
Meh, COD was never my type of game. Not to say it’s bad, but the gameplay is just so boring to me. Then again, I guess this is what happens when someone born with FPS games like Deus Ex, Half-Life, and System Shock 2 plays a more casual game like COD.
I will say one thing, I do like the cyperpunk/future theme the game has. I’m not saying I’m going to buy it, but if a demo comes out, I’ll be sure to check it out.
How is Half Life any less casual than Call of Duty.
Well there is more thinking involved
Now that I think about it has the word casual every even been defined? It seems like just a generic meaningless insult people throw around.
That’s precisely what it is. Dumbshits use it to make themselves feel better about the types of games they play. Playing video games in the first place, no matter the genre, is a pretty casual pastime.
Not really anything can be casual some things are just less suited to it. And you can take anything well suited to casual and be hardcore.
What about ArmA?
Everything outside of 100+ hour brutally difficult JRPG games is casual.
Even they can be casual if you spend a long time playing them over small intervals
What about Tribes? I don’t think that can really be considered casual since you need to learn the movement mechanics and how the weapons work before you can even play
What I meant by casual was that COD is pretty much a simple run n’ gun game. A game like Deus Ex for example isn’t just about shooting, it’s also about finding keypad codes, looking for hidden areas, press buttons to make shit happen, etc. That sort of thing doesn’t happen very much in COD, at least not any of the ones I’ve played.
But you added HL in there too which, besides a few puzzles sprinkled here and there, is pretty much running and gunning. I never got the fascination with Deus Ex either. Maybe you had to play it when it was released.
Meh, I guess I worded it wrong. Take a look at gameplay of SS2, DX, or HL, then look at gameplay of COD. See the difference? There’s alot more actual thinking and problem solving in the three formers then there are in the latter. While HL was run n’ gun as well in certain aspects, you have to remember that this can apply for all of the four games I’ve mentioned.
The difference is, COD for the most part is just see something = shoot it.
DX, HL, and SS2 interupted shooting with jumping puzzles, turning the power for something on, finding a whole new way around an obstacle through unconventional means, gain access to a room full of vital info via keycode, and this kind of stuff.
Now this doesn’t mean I hate COD, it’s pretty good, especially to have a large fanbase, but it’s just not my thing.
