Bulletstorm

Love when people think they’re too mature for dick jokes.

like you, there was an easy joke to be made with my post… Gag + Dick

I am disappoint.

grats

The game doesn’t use dick jokes. It uses the word dick. Massive difference. One can actually be smart and funny, one is just throwing a word out so twelve year olds will laugh.

This game is fucking amazing.

Seriously, buy it, rent it, play the demo, it is fucking balls to the walls, dick kicking action. The overcharge on the weapons is a great throw back to Unreal and UT, this almost feels like a UT game. I played the entire thing in one sitting, took me about 7 hours. Definitely going to replay it in co-op with mates, as well as the Echo stages to see how many points I can make.

Also Garry is talking shit, this game looks great. Quake levels with extra models?!

Looks is right now all I can see going for it. I like the style, and the combat was fun for a few minutes, but at the end of the day its just the same thing over and over again.

Anyway, on to my rant of the day on this: It treats you like a child. For a start, it is spectacularly linear. I don’t think I’ve gotten to an area where there are multiple paths to get to an objective that allow for choice. This is only enforced by the fact you can’t jump. The devs clearly think that you could mess up their game if they gave you freedom and as such took it all away, and I hate that. Second, there is no actual thought in the gameplay. Its all combat. Its all just spamming bullets or kicks or explosives at enemies until they’re dead and then move on. There is no chance that a player could explore or have to think about how to proceed, its always right there, glowing blue with a convenient key prompt on it, as if we didn’t know the controls to the game after the 90th time they ask us to do something. I don’t want to say that mindless violent fun is always bad, because this game has its moments, but those were all in the beginning of play sessions, before the mindless monotony and tedium set in. A game needs something else , and this game has nothing else.

In other new I’m going to go play some Deus Ex. I need it.

  1. Linearity in games is pretty damn common now adays. Once I got used to it I became fine with it, and I am the type of player who loves going off and doing stupid shit because I can. However with this game the I didn’t feel the need to go play with the environment because it gave me all the tools I needed to play with the enemies.

  2. All the thought of the game is meant to be in the kills. IE how can I kill this guy in and entertaining manor and whatnot. I didn’t pay any attention to their stupid list, I just went through trying to kill things in ways I thought would be cool. It was pretty satisfying to kill a guy in a way I thought up and then see the game go “Oh hey we think that was awesome too have some of these points”

There is no creativity with the kills though. They have obstacles, they have bullets, and you combine them. You can shoot them in a specific place, you can throw them at a specific thing, but its ultimately just the same thing over and over again. There is no strategy, no thinking, there is just shooting at different things and points flashing on the screen.

As to the linearity, to each his own. I avoid it personally, and I found this game was particularly atrocious, especially in the way it discourages exploration by highlighting where you need to go, and having absolutely nothing to discover.

I brought bulletstorm. It’s fun, I’ll give it that, whipping people into the air will never get old…well until it does. And having a remote controlled dinosaur will never get old either…until it does.

The game is kind of like what would happen if timesplitters mated with borderlands. It’s funny and fun but…it just lacks something.

I wasn’t happy with how it started either…about 15 minutes of cutscenes and interactive cutscenes before any real gameplay starts. Then in the first level here is a part that took me like 10 times to do because of the ridiculously sudden difficulty curve. Then after that it seems to get easy again…having a stupidly hard part near the beginning of the game is not a good idea.

Also the whole points system of killing enemies in a creative way, a lot of the time there isn’t a way to kill creatively and it’s just easier to shoot the enemies than kick/whip/bullet combinations to kill them.

I’d say it’s a game to be taken very lightly…there’s apparently a storyline, not that I have an idea what’s going on. It’s basically just a game you want to play for fun.

Edit: Also Garry is right about there’s no jump. I mean you don’t need one but jumping around everywhere in a game makes it more fun, this was annoying in timesplitters seeing there was no jump button and I kept getting stuck behind things.

Bawwww my game don’t let me jump it are unrealisteek.

In case none of you mouth-breather retards who have been constantly bitching about no jumping haven’t noticed, most people in real life don’t bunny hop everywhere. There IS a mantle system in the game, so it’s not like you always navigate AROUND obstacles.

Also, you’re bitching about the game’s linearity, but you’re on a forum for the remake of Half-Life, a game that is equally linear. There are no “multiple ways” to accomplish objectives in Half-Life. It’s “Go from Point-A-to-Point-B. Good, now go from Point-B-to-Point-C.” At least it livens up the combat with skillshots.

And Someonerandm, you’ve no right to bitch about the combat getting old if you’re not going to take advantage of the skillshots. That’s what the entire game is about. Yeah, if you run around just shooting everyone, it gets old, that’s why you don’t do that.

I take advantage of skillshots, and they’re boring. There is not real variety, its just “shoot here with this and throw that into that” over and over again.

Jumping is lazy on the part of the developers, there is no getting around this. I have on many, many occasions come across an easily surmountable obstacle only to find that I can’t jump over it. Its arbitrary and can only appeals to idiots who like to be led around the entire game, which is who the game is designed for. You never make a choice on what to do, you just follow the entire way. There is no thinking, there is only the aforementioned spam stuff at that and win.

There is also a reason Half-Life is not my favorite game in the world, by the way, and its linearity is a big part of that. Half Life 2 at least improved this by making you think about how to proceed from time to time and offering items if you explore even slightly. This game has none of that. Definitely going to end up being my worst game of the year unless some upcoming game entirely falls miles below my expectations, which are always low.

That’s the thing, though. Half-Life 2 made you think about how to proceed, but there was always only one way. There was a few times where the illusion that there were multiple paths was there, but generally it was still just leading you by the nose through every chapter.

Yes, but at least there is the illusion, and not just that there is actually something to see if you leave the beaten path. I’m not saying it has the openness of Crysis, but it has enough to encourage exploration, unlike Bulletstorm. Not to mention it has puzzles and the like to break up combat and encourage actually thinking. Bulletstorm encourages you to not think at all.

From what I’ve played of bulletstorm I wish at some points I could just kick back and look at the pretty graphics an all, but the game demands me to move fast kill and get kill shots quick or you suck.

Calm down you argumentive bastard. I never said it was unrealistic because it didn’t have a jump in it, all I said was that it’s fun to have a jump button.
Also I just played some more…it really is getting boring. The carbine is the only weapon worth using as the others except the sniper rifle which isn’t actually a sniper rifle since you can control where the bullet goes, are absolutely pointless. The difficulty curve is stupid, the same enemy over and over is stupid and the points system is also stupid. Oh and the multiplayer is shite and doesn’t work.

Bring on Duke Nukem pls

This game is fuckin sweet. Yanking a guy towards me, arming him with bombs, and then kicking him back at a group of his friends is awesome. Who cares if it’s linear, linearity is awesome if you pull it off right. I don’t even understand how someone can complain “its linear!” :frowning: when its pretty obvious thats what the game was going to be. Also has some of the nicest level design I’ve seen in a game, everything is gorgeous and theres awesome set pieces everywhere.

The only issue I have with this game is an issue that pretty much every review has said: it really does drag at the end. I seriously thought the game was over 3 times before it was actually over.

Just because I knew this game was going to suck doesn’t mean I can’t complain when it does. And linearity is never awesome if you pull it off right, its only at best average. Its the video game standard.

According to who? You actually think linearity automatically makes a game average? That’s dumb, just because I like big open worlds like fallout doesn’t mean I can’t suddenly enjoy games like half life. It sounds like you made up your mind and decided the game was crap before it even came out.
