British and American T.V.

I’ve seen Boosh, though I didn’t find it funny. Neither did I find the original Office funny. I guess some jokes are meant specifically for their point of origin. That explains why a show is remade.

If a joke is funny in the UK, it’s not guaranteed it will make sense in the US. Likewise, if I joke is funny in the US, a man from UK might not necessarily find it funny, as well.

I heard a few scenes in the harry potter movies were re-shot for american audiences.

British humour is generally better. Alot of the smarter Americans admit it, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

The Office and Extras were two shows that had American versions, both of which were worse than the origonial British version.

Though there are some decent American cartoons such as Family Guy and American Dad.

We got it on french TV as Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders or Miss Marple :retard: But we have to deal with our own crap first.

I am told there is no

In Brit-land.

Shame, best show on television.

I hope ya’ll aint missin out on this new gem too!

I keep seeing promos for that, but I’m never around when it’s on. Is it good?

Judging by your spelling of “homour,” I’m gonna guess you’re British.

Well, you finding shows from your country funny is because it panders to what your country finds humorous. US shows pander to what is funny in the US. This is why many people here find the US versions of Whose Line or the Office more funny than their UK counterparts.

You can’t simply say that UK humor is better because you are already biased. That’s why I’m not making a judgment call myself.

EDIT: And that, my friends, is a double post.

Archer? I normally catch it on FX at 11pm on Thursdays.

It’s also on Hulu.

Yes, I am an American. Yes, I watch Family Guy. Yes, I think it’s funny. I don’t think it’s a brilliant reflection of modern society and our current world order, I just watch it for poop jokes. I know it’s stupid, and that’s why it’s a good way to spend a Sunday night with a cold drink.
But if I want to watch smart comedy, there’s always “The Colbert Report.” Now THAT shit’s funny!

I think this is partly because (at least IMO) humor on British television shows is somewhat more complex and intelligent while humor on American shows tends to be cheaper and more low-brow. People of lower intelligence can understand low brow humor but probably not complex comedic setups…but there is probably a bit of a cultural barrier as well (it’s likely that most Americans wouldn’t understand jokes about British sport or custom, and vice versa…)

I think each country has it’s own types of hilarious comedy, but I think American TV in general is mostly garbage…all advertisements and no substance. If you want to watch any shows or films of comedic or artistic value here you have to get extra channels, like HBO.

watching tv in america is rly frustrating cuz you guys must have like twice as many ad breaks

Hey, I admit there are plenty of clunkers. Hell, I barely watch TV because of these clunkers (Two and a Half Men, King of Queens, etc.) But then again, we do have some (imo) masterpieces (House, Lost, Family Guy, Colbert Report, etc.) and I like our versions of Whose Line and the Office more, though, as I said, I’m probably biased.

I am only going to say one thing. Monty Python is the best thing to ever hit this earth. And I’m a stupid American.

You had to get a Brit in the lead role though

Hey, no doubt about it, Hugh Laurie rocks. Not only is he a great actor, but he’s one of the funniest people to grace TV. Great American accent, too.

The Simpsons used be a lot smarter, like the Hank Scorpio episode.

Sadly, they mostly show just the newest ones.

The Simpsons fucking sucks now. Not even Matt Groenings’ old comic strips can undo the loathe-knots I’ve tied for him.

Holy shit, does Simpsons suck nowadays. I haven’t watched it in years.

Yeah, I miss that show.

I always hate new eps of the Simpsons, because I think back to the Bleeding Gums episode, the episode where Bart steals the game and so many other classics. Then I look at what it is today and it makes me sad. The end of Season 9 was the end of the Golden Era of Simpsons.
