I’ve seen Boosh, though I didn’t find it funny. Neither did I find the original Office funny. I guess some jokes are meant specifically for their point of origin. That explains why a show is remade.
If a joke is funny in the UK, it’s not guaranteed it will make sense in the US. Likewise, if I joke is funny in the US, a man from UK might not necessarily find it funny, as well.
Judging by your spelling of “homour,” I’m gonna guess you’re British.
Well, you finding shows from your country funny is because it panders to what your country finds humorous. US shows pander to what is funny in the US. This is why many people here find the US versions of Whose Line or the Office more funny than their UK counterparts.
You can’t simply say that UK humor is better because you are already biased. That’s why I’m not making a judgment call myself.
Yes, I am an American. Yes, I watch Family Guy. Yes, I think it’s funny. I don’t think it’s a brilliant reflection of modern society and our current world order, I just watch it for poop jokes. I know it’s stupid, and that’s why it’s a good way to spend a Sunday night with a cold drink.
But if I want to watch smart comedy, there’s always “The Colbert Report.” Now THAT shit’s funny!
I think this is partly because (at least IMO) humor on British television shows is somewhat more complex and intelligent while humor on American shows tends to be cheaper and more low-brow. People of lower intelligence can understand low brow humor but probably not complex comedic setups…but there is probably a bit of a cultural barrier as well (it’s likely that most Americans wouldn’t understand jokes about British sport or custom, and vice versa…)
I think each country has it’s own types of hilarious comedy, but I think American TV in general is mostly garbage…all advertisements and no substance. If you want to watch any shows or films of comedic or artistic value here you have to get extra channels, like HBO.
Hey, I admit there are plenty of clunkers. Hell, I barely watch TV because of these clunkers (Two and a Half Men, King of Queens, etc.) But then again, we do have some (imo) masterpieces (House, Lost, Family Guy, Colbert Report, etc.) and I like our versions of Whose Line and the Office more, though, as I said, I’m probably biased.
I always hate new eps of the Simpsons, because I think back to the Bleeding Gums episode, the episode where Bart steals the game and so many other classics. Then I look at what it is today and it makes me sad. The end of Season 9 was the end of the Golden Era of Simpsons.
