British and American T.V.

Hi. I am from Newcastle in the North East of England and whilst watching King Of Queens i wondered if any British shows make it onto American T.V and if you like the not. A lot of American shows make it onto our channels such as Family Guy, King of Queens, Laurel and Hardy… E.T.C. and i usually have a good laugh at them.

I enjoy English television programs, and have bought DVDs of my favorites.

On Cartoon Network they broadcast The Mighty Boosh, Look Around U, and a bunch of other things like the original The Office.

Every few years the SyFy channel will show Max Headroom. SyFy shows tons of british stuff.

We also have BBCAmerica.

I hate it when British shows get remade for Americans, there was NO need to make a separate version of The Office!

Jesus fuck, how chauvinistic can you get when a great television show isn’t good enough because it’s not available in your local dialect.

It’d be just as stupid and pretentious as remaking American shows to have an English or Scottish dialect.

I saw a show a while back called “being human”. I enjoyed it a great deal but have yet to see when the rest of the episodes are going to air. :frowning:

They better not steal Doctor Who :open_mouth:

They didn’t?

i hope they dont show torchwood anywhere else that would be kind of embarrassing

Even talking about it is quite embarrassing TBH. Cringes

Season 2 is underway on TV atm ;3

As for me, I dislike ‘remade for US’ shows like the office. US office simply isn;t as good.
Having said that, the likes of The Wire, Firefly, and Arrested Development are surely a match for the best of what we have here.
Probably better in most cases. Recently, I;ve been marathoning all episodes of How I Met Your Mother. It’s great

I generally dislike American shows, they tend to be generic, unoriginal and boring. Only American shows I’ve been watching lately are the Big Bang Theory (mainly because of the geek stuff it builds upon) and House (and this one is getting pretty generic and unoriginal too, thank god it isn’t boring yet).

Ive been watching Twin Peaks and it owns. thanks America.

I find a lot more quailty in British TV, and more bland and generic television from america. Although America does produce some outstanding stand out gems like Lost, Heroes (Fancy cancelling it before the end of season 1… at least thats what I like to believe), Supernatural and South Park. I find remade british shows on american tv a confrimation of this, the office here was unquie, backed up by a brillant cast and a story arc that paid off big time but in America it was more generic and for me personally more bland. Life on Mars another great example in England from start to finish (Especially the finish) was a complete joy and its predeccsor ashes to ashes (Despite taking a little more time to settle into a groove i could enjoy) has also been brillant. And our national treasure? Doctor who. This show is family entertainment at its best, backed up by a brillant cast and special effects, theres nothing in America like this show. Torchwood reminds me the most of american TV and it doesnt surprise me russel t is in talks to bring it to america, but after the brillant Childern of Earth (Check it out, fantastic) I do look forward to whatever future it has. Being Human is good and getting better, anyone who enjoys that try and find out Misfits, imagine heroes when it was good but with a big whack of comedy

Yeah, we have Torchwood.

I personally find the American edition of The Office more enjoyable than the original, and I watched the original series before I began watching the new one.

It’s not quite a remake, though. It’s like SHAFT with Samuel L. Jackson, where he plays the original SHAFT’s nephew or something.

Any americans seen any of these?

The Mighty Boosh
Life on Mars & Ashes to Ashes (uk versions)
The Office
Hustle

fyi, all BBC if I recall correctly?

EDIT: Torchwood and Dr. Who may be to certain peoples tastes, I like them tho, admittedly more the latter. BBC again…
.

Boosh is definitely my favorite TV show. Can’t wait for series 4/the supposed film.

Have you seen The Mighty Boosh Live? :jizz:

when i was in america i caught darkplace on cartoon network. probably means more people have see it there than here. darkplace rules

I like a lot of American shows too, but they shouldn’t remake perfectly fine British shows just to suit their local dialect.

And as far as detective shows are concerned, only the British shows are any good. If I see one more vapid gadget-laded CIS show I’ll scream :meh:

there is only one detective show for me/…
