You know, you belgian folks strike me as a type, who love making fun of their country. How come?

And don’t tell me: “it’s Belgium!”

Love your 300 sorts of beer, your chocolate and sometimes your language

Duuude Hellmann’s > Miracle Whip by far.

I dislike mayo / miracle whip.

I like garlic sauce.

Good to hear!

I don’t really know why we make fun of our own country. The way our country is portrayed in the world makes us look at it and think: hmm, it must indeed look ridiculous that some want to divide such a small country in 2, or that the political situation is so complex, or that there are 3 official languages etc…
We know we’d laugh too if it weren’t our country, so why be hypocrites

This explains a little maybe: https://www.justlanded.com/english/Belgium/Belgium-Guide/Culture/Belgian-cultural-cliches
They say it’s a unique, self-deprecating sense of humor, I couldn’t say it better.

We (most of us) very much like other people/nationalities who aren’t that uptight or arrogant and who don’t take themselves too seriously. That’s also why there are almost never succesful Belgians (artists, sportsmen) abroad with diva-attitudes.

On the other hand, we are very proud of our country too and are glad to share it: our school-knowledge of English, French, German and Dutch, also the beer, fries, waffles, chocolate, music artists doing very well abroad (Selah Sue etc.), festivals like Tomorrowland,…

Is that like concentrated garlic juice?
