BM:DM Questions C:

I have multiple questions to ask and hopefully I will get answers out of them…

  1. Will a player be able to make Co-op maps like in Half-Life 2: Deathmatch / HL1 Co-op maps?

  2. Who will “support” servers? will we be able to make them for free? or should they be ordered as usual from verygames.net or any other gaming servers site?

  3. Will server addons such as Sourcemod / Metamod / EventScripts … etc. work on BMDM Servers?

  4. Is there a ranking system/statistics in BMDM that is internal like CSGO? Or like the statistics on CSS that are on Steam? A web-to-server transferring statistics like HL2DM-Consortium site…? etc.

  5. Will BMDM have online achievements?

We can’t really talk about future plans right now due to legal agreements made with VALVe during the Greenlight process. However, assuming we had BM  M as a released mode:

  1. I don’t see why not.
  2. The community will support the servers. We’re on the Source SDK. You should be able to just run servers via SRCDS. I’ll have to look into it more since I’ve never done that with the SDK but in theory, it should work.
  3. Only if the addon creators decide to update their plugins. We plan to release source code to make this easier.
  4. No plans right now for statistic gathering / ranking. This may or may not change.
  5. Maybe

Wait, BM  M might be cancelled? :frowning: That’s sad.

DM wasn’t cancelled as far as I know, coop was.

yeah, no one said dm might be cancelled

Dr. Maxwell is a zombie, he doesn’t know what he is saying, don’t bother with him…

Well, you’re just a cockroach. They don’t even exist in Black Mesa. So there. :stuck_out_tongue: Also, didn’t your-name-here just say that BMDM might be cancelled?

Are you seeing things or something?

Your-name-here didn’t say that at all. You might want to read his post again, Dr. Maxwell.

Are you alright?

Am I misinterpreting this quote?

Is BM: DM released? No. Will it be? This doesn’t say either way, and is definitely NOT a confirmation of cancellation. All it says is what might be there if they do release it.

The development of the mod hasn’t ended yet. Even if it wasn’t being worked on at the present, it doesn’t mean it won’t be later on. You are seeing implications where there are none Max.

he just reads everything through “bm devs suck” goggles

Um, I don’t think he did or said anything wrong on this occasion. He only ever said MIGHT be cancelled.

The world might end tomorrow, there’s no evidence that it will tho. No need to be paranoid. If they cancel DM then I sure will be sad, because it used to be one of if not the best multiplayer games back in the day and it desperately needs revival, but yeah… Xen has a priority I guess.

@Dr. Maxwell: You are the exemplar of the reason why we don’t release information anymore. How in the hell did you extrapolate BMDM being cancelled from my post? Did I even use the word cancelled in my post? NO. All I said was we can’t talk about our future plans just yet. If you want us to remain silent until release, keep inferring incorrect shit from dev posts.

honestly, you shouldn’t let it affect your communication
it’s just one person being negative, he or she and others like him or her don’t affect you unless you let them

In this case, yes it’s one person. But if you’ve had anything to do with Black Mesa over the past 8 years, you damn well know that number is a lot higher. People do the same thing with VALVe and HL3. They’ll tear apart and read into the smallest crevices of a post attempting to infer something that fits in line with their idea of the status quo. We’ve kind of HL3’d ourselves into a corner. We’ve made mistakes with over-promising before. We don’t want to continue that trend. The solution is not to say anything until we’re 100% sure we can deliver. Stuff like this though definitely doesn’t help. Believe me, I really want to talk about the cool shit we have in store for everyone. I’ve been pushing internally to open up. My hope is that the mindset we have will change and we’ll start to be more communicative.

We’ll see.

Anyway, final word is, the only thing we can confirm is that BMDM will exist at some point. I cannot confirm features or plans for it at this time.

Alright, it’s nice to know that BMDM will definitely exist at some point. Sorry to have misinterpreted your post. Also, I’d really love if you succeeded at getting communication opened up, because then maybe really info-desperate people like me wouldn’t be overanalyzing every little nugget of information.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
