Blue Shift Unlocked...

I’ve been trying to get this thing installed but it just won’t work. I have Half-Life Source installed as well as the CD version of Blue Shift. So why does it keep insisting that my HL directory isn’t good when I point it to the HL: S directory?

This mod is supposed to make BS a mod to HL: S so you also get the enhanced water and skyboxes. I understand that it needs BS to be installed, but why also the original HL?

Blue Shift: Unlocked doesn’t work with Half-Life: Source, what it does is that it improves the Steam version of Blue Shift, which is apparently buggy.

I don’t know where you got that other information from, but it’s wrong :stuck_out_tongue:

No it doesn’t, it unlocks Blue Shift for half life mods because Blue shift has a different BSP format.

Ah well

Blue Shift originally came with a High Def model pack that gave a lot more detail to creatures and weapons.(even if they did take a number of artistic liberties) Steam included that High Definition Pack, but installing it blocks all custom models in Half Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift. It also apparently uses some bugged models that cause a number of scripted sequences to stop working, both in the original games and gold source mods as well.

Planet Half Life put together a fixed version that could simply be dropped into the Half Life and Opposing Force folders to replace the regular models with the updated ones, but Blue Shift handles models differently and makes it impossible to drop in custom content.

That Blue Shift: Unlocked creates a Half Life mod using the information from Blue Shift. This mod can then have the updated models from Planet Half Life dropped into it and it will work just fine. however it is still a goldsource mod, NOT a source mod, which is what Half Life: SOURCE would be compatible with.

Bugger :frowning:

It’s not worth it anyway. Blue Shit sucks.

gtfo.

How is it good at all? How can anyone possibly like it?!
It’s Half-Life without the engaging story and length. It was just more of the same without any progress in the story. “oh yeah I’m in Black Mesa again. Oh well. Oh hey, Xen. Yeah, been there, done that.”

If I ever here someone call me “Calhoun” again, I will shoot myself.

Edit: At least Opposing Force tried to mix things up with new weapons, enemies, and environments. But it still looses points because it introduced one of the most overrated characters in video game history: Adrian Shephard.

Blue Shift loses points because it’s not as good as Half-Life.
Opposing Force loses points because it’s not as good as Half-Life and because it adds new weapons, NPCs, and enemies that don’t fit at all with the series. With the exception of the displacer, they should have stuck with the original weapons to at least maintain continuity.

But that’s irrelevant. I said GTFO because every time someone even mentions Blue Shift you say Blue Shit, regardless of whether or not it’s relevant to the discussion.

/rant.

Alright. I’ll back off.

Blue Shift wasn’t special, but it was still a good romp through the BMRF

Blue Shift had potential, but it felt kinda generic… Opposing Force added a few new HECU submodels and new voices, but then again, they weren’t seen in half-life. You’d at least think Blue Shift would have more security guard submodels and scripted sequences. + more length and less pffff in Xen.

What’s wrong with the Desert Eagle or the sniper rifle? To me it would make no sense if the HECU snipers would use crossbows O_o

This.

Agreed. However, Redemption held more lasting appeal than either of the two “official” mods (expansions?).

I loved Blue Shift…

Question, why so negative? I thought Both Blue Shift and Opposing force were both great games and had a different play style to half life which doesn’t mean there not as good just different styles of game play.

Sometimes when i see people putting games down there only looking at the negative sides and thats really not a healthy way to look at things… :frowning:

Cool rant there Calhoun. Looks like yer runnin’ late! Have a good one Calhoun!

Those kiwis and their weird sense of humour
