Blu Ray or DVD ROM

Im having an urge to buy a blu ray drive but prices are still a bit on the high side especially for burners, just wondering if it’s wise to wait for the next generation of drives.

Im still not seeing any softwares or PC games out on blu-ray. And in general use it’s still probably not common enough to warrant buying a Blu Ray burner.

But the big advantage would be the ability to watch high definition blu ray movies on my pc.

Anyway what kind of Optical drive are the rest of fallout using? Still with DVD or switched to blu ray?

I’d wait until the prices drop.

I think you should wait a bit until the prices drop. I’m still unsure about buying BDs though since DVDs have a longest life expectancy. Also, I’m really doubting about how long Blu-rays will last… I’m sure there will be a new standard in some years.

Software or games are never going to be on Bluray. Only movies, especially 3d movies.

I think you’ll find it will, DVD will become like VHS, forgoten to the ages, times move on, we evolve. PS3 is only the beginning, Microsoft will buy into Bluray with there next console

But yeah go with what everyones saying here, give it a few years, when DVD dies out, Blu-ray will be a lot cheaper and will cater for everything. Right now its only good if you’re an avid movie fan and need to see every tiny detail or have a craving for massive space

Blu-ray discs are perfect for PC games. Yeah, they’re slow, but that doesn’t matter once you’ve installed all the content onto the PC.

Blu ray is like 50GB so it doesn’t matter that it’s slow, most PC games are up to 8gb or maximum 16gb.

I know id’s RAGE is coming out on DVD-ROM and on Blu-Ray.

During the CD/DVD transition many games were released in both formats as well.

2 years left. Then most of all games will be sold over the internet.

Should probably wait until prices drop. The differences visually are only noticeable if your not-picky or have a nice enough TV (or in this case monitor) for the differences to even be noticeable in the first place.

Also Blu-Ray takes an eternity to load. Hopefully if games are ever released on Blu-Ray they fix that problem, loading times are already bad enough.

As games raise in graphical quality, their file sizes with increase. Already there are games that must be released with multiple DVD’s. I would say within the next couple of years games will begin migrating to Blu-Ray.

Games will never migrate on Blu Ray. It’s too expensive. On the next generation of consoles games will be download via the internet and stored on their harddisks.

blu rays are expensive now because its new tech, like when DVDs where first out, you’d be paying nearly 15 pounds (I think thats about 25 dollars) for a DVD but now you can get them for about 2 pounds, the same will happen with bluirays, the more they make of something the cheaper it gets

It’s the relative price of Blu-Ray players compared to DVD players within the first 3 years of commercial availability.

DVD’s are still $20 here.

Same here. :meh:

Not hard disks, solid-state drives.
