Blizzard's new IP: Overwatch

Meh. It could be okay.

At least Blizzard are stepping out of their comfort zone a little.

Exactly, that’s why I don’t get the complains. Did people really want another mmorpg/action rpg/rts??

Blizzard at last does something new and people go crazy…

I smell TF2

That trailer felt more like a Pixar movie than anything.

It was a movie I’d watch, though.

Edit: Although, watching the gameplay trailer, that IS TF2. It looks like it might have the same problem QUBE had: it looks so similar to the other game that, even if you’re willing to give it a break, there are too many similarities to ignore.

A TF2 clone is new?

I’d give it a try. At least it doesn’t have the hat bullshit that ruined TF2.

That “stupid hat bullshit” is likely to appear here too. Let’s face it - Valve proved with TF2 that cosmetic items are a fantastic way to generate money as long as all the gameplay is provided. Unlike many multiplayer games where you HAVE to pay for new content or get separated into haves and have-nots, there is no need to have cosmetics. It is only a want, thus when players break down and buy something, they might be angry at themselves for giving in, but seldom if ever will they blame the developer for giving them options. I am aware that many people complain about hats and how they ruined TF2. Often they complain while playing the game - which is still going strong 7 years after release. So, yeah, Blizzard will more than likely incorporate cosmetics at some point. In the end it won’t matter whether they do or not, the game will stand or fall based on the core game itself.

Yeah, I thought that too until every player looked like they were designed by fuckin Xzibit.

Hats were brilliant and I really don’t get why people complain about them.

  1. They fund the game and are one of the reasons its still getting so much attention from Valve
  2. Give opponents a sense of individuality and personality/reconizability
  3. Entertaining content to craft/find/purchase, creates a sense of investment
  4. Breaks up the game’s aesthetic to make it more interesting

Fairly subjective list, but come on what is so horrible about the hats? That people care about them and you don’t care about them so much that you care about people caring about them?

Also the game does bear a ton of similarities to TF2 visually and in gameplay features. However, as far as I can tell from the trailer, the game is taking a MOBA approach: characters with highly differing abilities that fit within a set of classes. That alone will probably make the game play a lot differently than TF2. Then again like Pyro said the similarities are grating.

I meant to say that a first person shooter game is a new thing for Blizzard, not new industry-wise of course.

Nevermind the fact that hl2.exe crashes still exist, so I doubt it’s getting so much attention. Besides the actual modeling of the weapons was outsourced to the fanbase.

At the cost of making them look like absolute shit, losing all the personality the actual characters had.

…And the downside to that is that now each class is way too overdone and their silhouttes are fucked, so you really can’t tell at a glance what you saw.

You could say that I care, because there is a good game buried behind all the bullshit pushed into it. A game I quite enjoyed and played everyday for two years.
Oh, but no, a perfectly good art direction had to change in order that mister important had the pants that fuckin pleased him didn’t it? So now we’ve got servers full of twats running around in clothing that makes a pride parade look like the Amish.

Not sure if I just watched a video for WoW Fortress or if someone made an ENB mod for Super Monday Night Combat.

EDIT: Totally agree with Pyro though, looks like it could be a pretty cool movie.

Ah, so apparently this is what “Titan” ended up being.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
