Blade Runner Game on Win7 64

Hey guys i’ve recently found my old copy of blade runner and i tried installing it on my 64 bit win7 and it didn’t work because it was a 16 bit app but i found a work around and installed it and it runs, however in the game the characters and objects to interact with are consistently flickering, as is the ingame KIA and menu. I’m not quite ready to give up on it and any help would be appreciated i’m running 64bit Win7 6gb of RAM with a nvidia gt220

EDIT: i’ve also tried all the compatibility options

A game that old there’s probably not much you can do to make it run flawlessly on modern systems without using OS virtualization.

Quit explorer.exe before you launch, it will fix some of the flickering and colour problems.

what do you mean quit? like end the process tree via task manager?

Use Windows XP. It’s the first and last good OS by MS.

You forgot Windows 7.

you can pick up win 98 for £10-£20 on ebay and get virtualbox free from SUN. You’ll be able to run a load of old games on that. Or maybe linux with WINE could run it, it is pretty old.

I’d like to try the Explorer.exe idea first but this is a good idea i’ll have to try it, any particular distro you recommend?

I didn’t have my hopes up for it but totally exceed my expectations.
The only thing is that Bad Company 2 is unplayable as it gets very laggy (I heard that also happens with Vista). :frowning:

Yeah.

EDIT: I tried closing down explorer and no change in performance. I might try maxey’s idea and use an older version of windows on a VM

You can run it from the task manager. Or make a Bat file, like this one (For starcraft)

I found my copy of this the other day and can’t get it to install at all on my 64 bit win 7. Would you mind telling me what the work around you found is? I’m desperate to play this again! Thanks

I just did a google and have you tried alt-tabing out and back in again. Apparently that helped some people.

Just follow his instructions, it’s fairly simple and pretty straightforward.

Yes, when you start up the intro is messed up, alt-tab works to fix that but the characters and objects are still flickering :frowning:

This worked for me with Starcraft which has color issues as well, every few minutes during gameplay the screen will flash, the first flash is usually when the colors mess up, but after I tried this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectDraw\Compatibility\StarCraft116]
“Name”=“Starcraft.EXE”
“ID”=hex:ca,89,65,49
“Flags”=hex:00,08,00,00

it works fine now, the flashes still happen but the color stays normal, alt-tab doesn’t set it off either, maybe these can be changed to work with your game? welcome anyone to fix’d

Many people including myself play BC2 flawlessly on Windows 7. There’s got to be something else going on in your machine.

Never mind…

I don’t know what else to do. I will try installing it in the pc of a friend and see what happens. :frowning:

BTW, I’ve windows 7 ultimate, IDK if there might be some security measure or something that creates lag.

Ok. And now a little fix for the “Garbled screen problem” (and maybe other issues) without the need to use the “ALT+TAB” keys: Search in Google for the “bitpatch ddwrapper” and download the file “ddwrapper.zip”.
Extract ddwrapper.zip in the Game’s directory and edit the file “aqrit.cfg” with notepad or wordpad.
Leave all the values to the right with an “1” except “Wine_Diablo” and “NovideoMemory”, there you should put a “0”.
This works for Windows 7 (Ultimate) but should work also in other versions of W7 and Vista.
